Diageo/Hotline Polls showing Dead Heat - BEWARE!! They're McCain CRONIES!
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 12:05 PM by progressivebydesign
I was wondering who was behind this Diageo/Hotline poll, as I hadn't recalled it last General Election. And since it's been used extensively on the internet, and by CNN, I decided to do some digging.

Did you know??

That the Diageo/Hotline poll was conducted by: Financial Dynamics? http://www.fd.com/

Did you know??

That Financial Dynamics is headed by Oliver Pawle? http://www.ftmergermarketawards.com/judging.aspx?m_pid=0&m_nid=23753

Did you know??

That Oliver Pawle was formerly with UBS?

Which happened to be the lobbying client of Phil Gramm? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24844889/

Yeah. Phil Gramm, McCain's National Co-Chair was a lobbyist for UBS (the giant Swiss Bank), during the time that Oliver Pawle was Treasurer/executive there?

Hmmmm... makes you wonder why a PR/Crisis/Media FIRM is being cited as a definitive source of polling data. They also use an average of 800, yes 800, people for their polling.

We're being misled by the media. Don't believe anything -- do the homework.

1. I don't ever believe the polls--after working for a non-profit and learning how they skew
things, I don't believe much of what I see on TV any longer. If the polls were correct, then why does Obama currently have such a large projected lead in EV's?

2. Exactly! I don't think most poeple realize how abused the polls are.
And it's totally the Electoral College that counts!! You're right!

4. Interesting. I'm hoping people here will see these things and not worry about the polls so much.
That's the point of my thread.. to show that polls are not reflective of reality, because they're either biased, or the sampling doesn't reflect the voters, or the size is too small. When they poll on fridays and saturdays, the most younger voters and families are out doing things. Not sitting by the phone.

5. So why did they show Obama up by 9 after DNC?
Hotline/FD 08/29 - 08/31 805 RV 39 48 Obama +9
Hotline/FD 08/18 - 08/24 1022 RV 40 44 Obama +4

So why did they show Obama up by 9 after DNC?

Here are all the polls from same timeframe:
CNN 08/29 - 08/31 927 RV 48 49 Obama +1
Hotline/FD 08/29 - 08/31 805 RV 39 48 Obama +9
CBS News 08/29 - 08/31 781 RV 40 48 Obama +8
USAT/Gallup Tracking* 08/30 - 08/31 1835 LV 43 50 Obama +7
Rasmussen Tracking 08/24 - 08/26 3000 LV 47 46 McCain +1
Gallup Tracking 08/24 - 09/26 2724 RV 44 45 Obama +1

Hotline had the highest spread. This was last set of polls before McCain could no longer accept donations (due to public financing).

If they were going to "cheat" for McCain wouldn't it make sense to cheat the last weekend people can vote and bring in the $$$.

I just think it is strange nobody calls Hotline a shill when they show Obama up 9 but as soon as it shows tied (still best poll out today) they are anti-Obama.

Why not just post McCain up 6-8 ALL the TIME all election cycle?
Wouldn't that work better to depress the DEMS, energize the REP, and sway the INDYS?

Everyone was expecting a bounce. Why is everyone reach for conspiracy stories to explain the bounce that they have been expecting since the convention started? This is a bounce. Today or tomorrow will be high water. It will slowly decline back to +2 - +4 Obama before the first debate. The results of that debate will determine the course of the trend.
