Stunner: McCain is winning as the CHANGE candidate!
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 12:56 PM by avaistheone1
Is anyone listening to the Thomm Hartmann show this morning?

Thomm is making a really good point that the republicans are promoting McCain as the CHANGE candidate. You know you have heard the media pieces about McCain being a maverick, and Palin being a CHANGE agent. Yet McCain has been voting 90% of the time with Bush. And Palin...well we all know about her.

Hartmann is saying Obama/Biden have to get about 6 talking points down and keep repeating them again and again and emphasize that they are the real CHANGE candidates.

Yikes! This is reminding me of how Kerry was swift boated as a war hero, and Bush emerged as the patriot and the fighter ....then we wound up with Bush as prez. (Yes, I know we lost due the corruption in Ohio. But, 2004 was very close because the republicans fed into people's stupidity.)

Another observation I made after watching a video of a focus group in the DU Political Forum is that it is that the undecideds in this election are not the politically engaged. The undecideds are people who do not particularly pay attention to politics. For these people to decide to move to Obama or McCain will NOT be based on issues, it will be based on the narratives/stories of the candidates.

I hope Obama is paying attention.

1. Don't believe the hype.
Just because the lunatic fringe-biased M$M media doesn't show Obama/Biden emphasizing "change" on the trail, doesn't mean it isn't happening. Time to turn off the TV or watch/stream CSPAN when they show the town halls and rallies.

3. The media is the message - right or wrong.
Obama not only has to frame his message in rallies, but in his ads.

Thomm is no sucker for media hype. In fact his latest book talks about how the media manipulates messages.

5. Yes, I think it is brilliant when Obama says the republicans think you are stupid.
That at least has to give people a moment of pause.

7. Trouble is that the republicans take advantage of the stupidity,
whereas the Dem's always try a fruitless educational campaign.

8. Misleading headline. He's pushing the maverick branding, but isn't winning.
Thom was talking about aggressive right wing marketing of JSM III and Sarahcuda as mavericks.

Warning that they could steal the branding from Obama, especially with the cooperation of the consolidated corporate broadcast media in Republican hands.

Pointing out that it would be a good idea to punch back at their attempt to steal that key identity from the true agents of change, The Democrats.

He also talked about John Sidney McCain III, humble public servant with $520 loafers, pretending he isn't even a Republican. Recommending we remind voters which party's policies his ticket supports at every opportunity.

So now I guess it behooves me to call him John Sidney McCain III, humble Republican public servant with 7 homes, $520 shoes, a net worth of $40 million, and an heiress second wife with $100 million of her own.

10. I liked Biden's imagery about Senator vs Candidate flip flops.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 01:14 PM by Overseas
Senator McCain passed this law. Candidate McCain opposes it. Do the top five.

Mayor Palin supported the Bridge to Nowhere. Candidate Palin opposes it.
Governor Palin supported teaching Creationism in science class. Candidate Palin hasn't talked about it.

McSame and Impalin' say they are genuine. Which face says that?
And show both of them contradicting themselves.

They sure are mavericks-- their positions on bedrock issues have jumped around a lot.

Edited to add: They sure are mavericks-- Modern Republicans, shaking up core American values !!
