If you want the MSM to focus on what's important...
You have to let them know what you care about. I know there are special interests within the MSM that lead to some bias, but in the end the networks want profits. Quite simply: Viewers=Money and Money=Good. So lets get some ideas rolling on how to bump stories important to us.

Page Views: If CNN.com has two articles up, one about Palin's baby, the other about Troopergate, and the Palin baby story is getting twice as many page views as the Troopergate one, which one do you think is going to get more play? So look at the good stories, and avoid the bad ones except for research purposes. For God's sake, don't link to the bad ones. Links are like steroids.

Surveys/Polls: When you get a survey or poll, take it. They're not scientific, but it lets them know what matters to their viewers. And again, they want to keep you around, no matter what the story.

Links: As I said, they're steroids for websites. Got a good story, link the hell out of it. Get people going there. Put it in your facebook, myspace, blog, forums, emails, everything.

Those are just some ideas for the net. Feel free to add your own.

1. Actually, if you want the media to focus on what's important, you have to have a liberal Dem or
a celebrity doing the illegal opposite of it ... and then it would be the 24/7 news story of the century ...

welcome to DU ...

2. yeah
Sadly, I think it's because there are more righties glued to their TVs than lefties, hence more people to profit off of.

And thanks! I'm learning a lot here :)
