If you have a serious medical problem
do you want to go to...

The really smart doctor who is tops in his field, but who is only a few years out of medical school (and is partners with a very experienced and well regarded doctor)

or

To the barber/hair stylist who is a lot like you, is fun to talk to and has been cutting hair for years

????

Yet sadly when the public is allowed to pick a president, too many people will favor going for the John the barber or Sarah the beautician.

1. If I have a serious medical problem, I'm dead
no insurance. Of course, I get your point, agree 100%. Just sayin'. I turned 58 yesterday, I'm in good health, (knock wood), but if something happens to me, I'm not going to sell off my land, which I'm leaving to the kids, to go to hospitals which I hate.

2. She's the "American Idol" candidate...
There is a rash of stupid going around in this country, and McPalin benefits
from that.

Our party needs a strategy to secure the "stupid" vote.

3. I think anologies are the ticket
a good anology will reach even the most thick headed of voters.

6. You're right. We do need a strategy to secure the "stupid" vote.
But how do we do that? Stupid people are never going to be able to "relate" to Obama and Biden. So we can't base our strategy on that.

7. we'll never outstupid the republicans
It's useless to even try in the long run, as the stupidity to which you refer is symptomatic of ignorance and ignorance is next to impossible to fake; can you imagine Biden sounding a tenth as naïve as Drusilla, or Kerry beating * at his own game? We need to dispel ignorance itself (usually by raising economic conditions, although confronting ignorance head on can be useful in the short term in a "give a man a fish" sense), hoping for stupid voters to not vote stupidly hasn't worked since Adlai Stevenson, and we'll never be masters of hindbrain communication while our heads are filled with silly thoughts extraneous to eating/fucking/preying on smaller species.

4. They want to be able to "relate" to a candidate
So Stupid ends up attracting the Stupids. And if one keeps in mind that the average IQ is about 100, that means half the American public has an IQ of of less than 100. So it's a pretty big constituency.

I guess the broader question is - why? Why do so many people these days feel they should vote for someone they'd like to have a beer with as opposed to someone who is going to do a good job? I just can't puzzle that one out. I know the media plays a role in this manipulation, but it still doesn't explain everything.
