Why So Serious? Did You Expect This To Be Easy Taking On The GOP and Big Media?
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 03:40 PM by Median Democrat
I've posted since the primaries that it was foolish to expect this election to be easy despite the Bush economy. Why? Because the GOP is more than willing to lie, and Big Media is less than willing to hold the GOP accountable. So, guess what? The election is tough with the GOP pulling the greatest of frauds, convincing voters that the Democrats, not the Republicans, have been in charge the past 8 years, and the Republicans are the agents of change. Now, if we had a less than docile media, the Republicans should be getting their asses handed to them by Big Media, but of course we don't. We have Fox News and a bunch of Fox clones running around repeating GOP talking points.

So, are you going to sit around depressed and complain that life isn't fair? Are you going to wish that the Democrats were more like the Republicans in terms of spreading lies? Or, are you going to fight for what you believe, and have some fun along the way.

This is an election. This is your democracy, and we have the freedom to royally screw things up by voting for McBush. But try to have some fun while you are at it. Try to convince someone who has not voted before to vote, offer to drive them to a polling place, and try to convince them to vote for Obama.

Back in the day, politics was much more personal and face to face. Sadly, with Big Media, the corporations run everything. So, it was silly to expect this to be easy. No Democrats has ever won a majority of the popular vote, since 1976.

So, lighten up, and get to work, and stop watching those tracking polls. If it were so easy to beat the big corporations, we would have done so by now, and they would not be so big.

1. Here's something I always remember when the polls come out

The largest growing block are young voters.

As a general rule, they do not have land lines and cells are their only phones.

Pollsters have yet to use cell phone numbers in polling, thus it's the older voters who are responding to the questions.

If pollsters started using cell phones, the results of the polls would be different. Or if they started doing on-site polling in residential areas and on college campuses.

3. Remember 2000? Tracking Polls Wildly Fluctuate! Accept The Challenge!
I would not really worry about tracking polls in any event, because they fluctuate, and lead to distracting highs and lows. Instead, focus on what you can do each day to make this election your election. Also, try to have some fun! Elections are great opportunities to meet like minded people who care about the issues you do.

In other words, try to get as much out of it, as you put into it, because life is too short. Make some friends while you try to change the world.

2. Please ignore the polls
There has been a poll nearly everyday, ad nauseum for months. Does anybody remember a poll from more than a few days ago? WTF, polls change by the day, by the hour, depending upon a whole lot of factors.

The old saying is that there is only one poll that matters and that is the one on Nov 4.
