MSNBC: Jacob Weisberg, author of Newsweek cover story "Palintology" is ripping Palin
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 03:57 PM by ClarkUSA
Weisberg is slowly and methodically taking apart Palin's extremist wingnut social views. Yay!

Among other pithy remarks, he said Reagan must be rolling over in his grave after seeing Republicans at
the convention celebrating unwed teenage pregnancy, that shotgun marriages like Bristol is facing have
twice the divorce rate after 10 years than people who marry later, and that it was Palin who pushed her
children into the spotlight.

He repeated more than once that the Republican Party has devolved into a "party of pro-life absolutists
to the exclusion of any other conservative values."

You must read the article "The Real Sarah Palin": http://www.newsweek.com/id/157696

Newsweek is also taking on GOP hypocrisy about Bristol Palin's pregnancy in this piece: "Bristol's Choice:
Republicans and the illusion of reproductive choice." http://www.newsweek.com/id/157909

Newsweek likes Obama (has liked him for awhile now)!! :D

1. Finally, some one is having the guts to say "Enough" to this
crap. I think we'll see more of it in the days to come. Anyone with half of a brain isn't fooled by this.

2. It's about time someone in the media...
took note of who Sarah Palin really is.
As a community activist myself, I do take much offense to what she said regarding us.

13. Meanwhile, Chris Matthews opened the hour debunking Palin's Bridge To Nowhere lie.
:toast:

He's now questioning the way Republicans have codeworded the term "community organizer".

21. That's what Chris Matthews was getting at, too
He's been hitting McCain/Palin all through the show so far -- not in a hostile way, but a smart-professional-press way.

Bet he's mad he got canned from his anchor job because of McCain's campaign. :-)

4. Glad he went there
The gauzy photo op of Bristol and Levi "ya fuck with me, I'll kick your ass" Johnston was so touching.

As for Reagan being appalled, I just told a friend that Andrea Mitchell is going to look like Edward R. Murrow in 10 years, at the rate our media is declining.

We need to win this thing.

12. I was surprised... I originally thought it was a puff piece.
"I just told a friend that Andrea Mitchell is going to look like Edward R. Murrow in 10 years, at the rate our media is declining."

You should send this to her -- she'll be very flattered (just don't tell her about the Bad Andrea and burst her bubble). ;-)

Chris Matthews just opened the show with a clip showing Obama saying Palin lied about her opposition to the Bridge To
Nowhere after showing the bogus McCain "Mavericks" ad. He's sticking it to her in a subtle way. I'll bet Matthews is pissed
at being removed as an election/debate anchor.

We will win this. Keep the faith, Brother BG.

20. Chris Matthews just hardballed Palin about her social wingnut views!
The grinning Republican slimeball stopped smiling when Chris asked him what, except for gender, did Palin share in
common with Hillary considering she wanted to outlaw all abortion, even in the case of rape and incest?

Matthews asked the Republican whether he supported Palin's views and whether he thought most Americans did?
The guy stuttered and ducked and Matthews laughed in his face, saying, "You don't believe this stuff."

17. Where is the Jacob Weisburg piece, your link is to a totally different
...story

<snip to end>
In the battle with Obama and Joe Biden, the McCain campaign will emphasize Palin's executive responsibilities, her judgment, her instincts, her reformist credentials and her fighting spirit. Aides might encourage her to take the lead on energy issues, emphasizing one policy area she's very familiar with. They'll also play up her small-town roots, trying to draw comparisons to Harry Truman. Palin herself made two references to Truman in her nomination speech. "Long ago, a young former haberdasher from Missouri followed an unlikely path to the vice presidency," she said. Then she quoted the writer Westbrook Pegler: "We grow good people in our small towns with honesty, sincerity and dignity." The analogy is strained. Truman served for 10 years in Congress before becoming vice president. But Palin does have similar spunk, and she does come from a small town. For better or worse, she'd bring those small-town values to Washington.

This story was reported by Karen Breslau, Andrew Murr and Mark Hosenball in Anchorage, Alaska; Suzanne Smalley in St. Paul, Minn.; Michael Isikoff, Michael Hirsh and Daniel Stone in Washington, D.C.; Holly Bailey with the McCain campaign, and Lisa Miller, Sarah Kliff and Katie Paul in New York. It was written by Jeffrey Bartholet and Breslau.

27. Your link to the Newsweek story shows nothing about Jacob Weisberg
...ripping Palin. Only the five page story crediting the other reporters.

Was Jacob Weisberg ripping Palin on MSNBC? He sure wasn't in that story, unless there was an intro that appears on the news stand copy of Newsweek which does not come up in the link or any search I do at the link. Sorry to be such trouble.

28. I've been wondering what Nancy Reagan thinks of Palin.
Given that her two children have been speaking out quite decisively and negatively. And we know that Reagan himself cooled on McCain after he divorced his first wife. Would love to be a fly on the wall in that house.

32. Damn what? The honeymoon's over?
McCain/Palin, it's like he got kind of drunk, drove out to Vegas, married her, and then woke up the next morning and said oh NO.

He realizes she has to meet the family and gives her talking points, but eventually they just shake their heads. They see that Johnny made another wasilly decision.

all of her bullshit in that one interview.

Gibson will probably look into the camera at the end of the interview and say something like, "That's good enough for me to vote for you. Thanks, Governor Palin, you'll make a swell vice president."
