A bunch of back seat drivers here???
I'll say this and then duck for cover. Get off the keyboard and out onto the street. Instead of preaching to the choir, instead of second guessing the Campaign's every move, get out and talk to your neighbors and friends. Start doing the tedious, mind numbing work of culling voters' lists, canvassing, phone calling, licking envelopes. Walk the walk or shut the fuck up.

4. Worse than backseat drivers
Backseat drivers can actually have an effect on the driver! These people are posting campaign strategy advice to people who can't do anything about it. They're like backseat drivers, but for a different car on the road!

walking around my little town putting up flyers with the tax chart from the washington post with the message "What Income bracket are you in ?"

no pro or anti candidate msg... just the fact..

since most people around here are in the brackets that would benefit from obama, it cant be a bad idea to get the msg out on whos gonna help them out more ;)

12. Of course, you're right. You always are. People should just continue
typing away here on DU...it will make all the difference in this campaign. Shame on me for thinking maybe we should actually DO something.

23. Well, let's see. I hosted two work parties this weekend, today
I finalized and ordered yard signs, this week I have fliers to edit and next weekend more work parties. Don't know what's on the agenda after that but I think probably the usual tabling and phone calling. Is that OK with you?

25. Don't get your panties in a twist!
I was just making sure you were practicing what you preach!

Carry on!

I, on the other hand, live is an exceedingly BLUE state. I contribute by reading blogs and message boards, emailing government officials, emailing people I know with information garnered on DU and other left leaning sites...

Not everyone who hangs out in the InterTubes is wasting time. Not everyone lives in a state where "outside" work on campaigns is going to be worth a hill of beans.

I live in Los Angeles, a city awash in Obama signs, banners and bumper stickers... I've yet to see ONE for McCain. Not one yard sign... not one bumper-sticker, nada. I do, however, see daily freeway blogging about the war and other heinous acts perpetuated by the GOP.

Oh, I know there are a few Republicans around, but I seriously think they are afraid to let it be known because of the all out Obama fervor around here.

So you see, some of us MUST stay online and keep an eye out for juicy tidbits to pass around. I don't think it's fair to chastise everyone with that broad brush stroke.

20. Many are...
We're just venting during the work day.

Here in Maryland, most of us do the hard work on the weekends, because our "work" is in PA and VA. Most of us aren't close enough to go in the evenings, especially in the HEART of PA and VA. I'm sure the borders are sick of us by now! ;-)

I'll be going to a fundraiser in about an hour.

My weekend is booked solid.

But I agree that it gets discouraging to come here.

assume that people here aren't doing that.

You claim you're doing lots of stuff -- but you're still here posting.

So, keep your uninformed generalizations to yourself and shut the fuck up.

22. 1, you're making a pretty big assumption, and 2. this IS a discussion board
Most of us ARE out there working. And hey, guess what--we also like to sign on and discuss the minutae of what's going on.

This is a discussion board; starting a thread lecturing us to STFU is probably not the wisest thing to do.

24. Yes, I thought this was a discussion board until it became an
"Obama should do this" "Obama should do that" "Obama's gonna lose unless he does what I say" board. I don't see any discussion in that. I also don't see anything one bit constructive either.

29. You want to dictate WHAT we can discuss?
Really?

And while there are certainly plenty of reactionary threads, there are just as many that are informative and/or positive.

Presuming to tell folks what to talk about here is about as smart as telling the sun not to shine. It's just not going to happen.

26. I can't get out during the day when I'm working, but I can stay informed.
There's plenty to be gotten from reading and writing what's here too, you know.

Not that there's not a lot of nonsense here, but you're not going to change the people who only care about nonsense, simply by lecturing them that they should do something else.
