For these "Amurikan" idiots, just being "near" a foreign country counts as "experience" of that country. You don't actually have to go there or live there or know anything about it, merely being "near" is enough, as if cultural awareness is a fluid or gas that can be absorbed by proximity.

By this reasoning, I'm a nuclear physicist, because I used to live near a nuclear power plant. I'm also a cardiothoracic surgeon, because there's a hospital just up the road. Hmmm, I guess I must also be a woman, because I live in the same house as my wife!
