"Obama needs to dumb it down"
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 05:56 PM by Blarch
-Thom Hartman.

I think this is a huge problem. Barack Obama does not understand who he is talking to.

He is talking WAY over the heads of the idiots in this nation. Thom Hartman was even talking about using pictures with these idiots so that maybe ...just maybe they will understand.

This is a huge issue. Barack is a smart man...a very smart man. The IQ gap between Barack and the average American is massive...and is now posing a problem.

The Democrats have always said "we need to inform the people, educate the people, and then the tide will turn." ...Well, I have news for ya, The Dems have been trying to "inform and educate" the masses since Nixon ...and while they were doing their good deed, the situation got 10 times worse , as it turns out...the people can't be shown the truth, just like a monkey can't learn quantum mechanics.

I brought this up before and was slammed for it. Maybe Thom Hartman bringing up the point will generate some rational debate.

On edit. I just heard a clip of Obama saying ..."They just can't make stuff up"

He needs to understand that they CAN make stuff up, they WILL make stuff up ..and the American people WILL believe the lies...and they will win on these lies.

1. We just had 8 years of being dumbed down. We'll get who we
deserve, I guess, but I rejoice at the prospect of a smart man for president who can effectively communicate.

Your talking about how some people, even when the truth is staring them in the face, refuse to say otherwise and still say Obama is a muslim.

That's because they are Hillary nuts. lol... they know Obama isn't muslim, but to them he is still a muslim. Their Hillary nuts. Probably a PUMA interview with the nut.

Your post is an insult to all Hillary supporters who are trying to get Obama elected. I'm very certain that the vast majority of Obama-is-Muslim pushers are right wing nuts, not "Hillary nuts."

...is culturally insensitive and dare I say it, offensive.

Asking that an intelligent male of color "dumb it down" is also "offensive", in my opinion.

"THEY think You're STUPID"... is Obama's mantra.

I like it, I want to stick with it. For him to completely dumb down negates his respect for the American people.

We're often myopic, but I don't think we're dumb.

They like being told that they are too smart to put up with the current bullshit rhetoric. That's what has been helping Obama, not hurting him.

9. Not "dumb it down" but SIMPLIFY!!!
He needs to keep his message SIMPLE so that people can REMEMBER it and REPEAT it to their friends.

I think "simplify" is less offensive sounding than "dumb down", don't you?

36. Hugh's Right - Simplify
For what it's worth, I think similar requests were made of Kerry in '04 (to keep it simple...but we know John! he tried though, sometimes...).

Simply statements repeated stick (as I mentioned in another thread, the Repubs have this down to an art form).

Instead of "You just can't make stuff up...", he should say, "they're making stuff up!" or (dare I even say it?!) the more direct and true: "they're lying to you".

That's the only dirty that works for Dems. If we were real jackasses we'd put forth a bill in congress for "Page Appreciation Day" or to rename the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to "Larry Craig International Airport" or something like that. It would be very Republican of us, but it would probably work.

20. Elections nowadays are decided by the most ignorant voters
If you ever watch Peter Hart focus groups on C-SPAN you know exactly what I mean. These people can't find their ass with both hands.

The challenge facing both parties is to reach out and capture these morons without alienating their base. Republicans do this MUCH better than Democrats. Then again, they have a built-in advantage in this regard.

...is basically saying you don't understand the context I'm referring to. As such, it's easier for you to create a problem with me, than to admit your personal lack of knowledge on this particular issue.

If you are interested in learning more about the cultural context and hisorical comparison african american men to apes, monkeys, etc do let me know. I'm happy to refer you to some texts and internet links. :)

In the future, I'm more than happy to share information. I'm not ok with people making rude assertions.

And since you didn't, you just stuck that image in there without explanation, explain instead how you think people are supposed to know what you (allegedly) mean?

And WHY did you even feel the need to put a picture (that one particularly) to make your point? Why does it need to be there?

I think you are disingenuous.

Sincere unintentional offense, is usually handled a lot differently than this.

People that mean no harm, don't dig in their heels and start hurling insults at the people that merely "ask for clarification." They clarify. If they meant no harm, they may even apologize....say they had no idea, etc.

If this person didn't know it was ever used in a racist way in the past, why did they immediately start singing the "how dare you call me a racist" blues?
