11. The fact that it is a lie
is pounded every time it is posted now, but the posts are viral.

It has the markings of a distraction, they've done it before.

4. Well, WTF do we expect?
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 06:22 PM by Codeine
If we deploy lies that get uncovered we can't very well complain about the egg on our faces. It was some clumsy shit that made us look stupid, like the pregnancy bit half of you kept harping on last week.

Fuck Palin. Win on issues. Win on Obama. Win because the last eight years have been a non-stop nightmare. The 'pukes killed the economy, killed the housing market, killed our standing in the word, and they killed hundreds of thousand in their useless war. Those are the things that will get the evil shits out of the White House, not some semi-literate raving about shooting caribou or knocked-up kids.

Fuck rumors about library books. FOCUS, motherfuckers! This bullshit is precisely upon what they want you to waste your energy and passion. This is why they chose the silly bint! Can't you see? Don't play Rove's game.

Damn, people.

7. It is TRUE that she tried to ban the books. The GOP must have put out a FAKE list of
what books she wanted to ban in order to try to make the banning of the books look like a lie.

Playing Rove's game is deciding not to expose the truth that Palin is extremist BECAUSE Rove plays stupid games like putting out a false list.

9. It's just a generic list of frequently-targeted books.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 06:31 PM by Codeine
Some dumb-ass blogger puts it out and imbeciles post it five hundred thousand fucking times to this place and others without bothering in the slightest to confirm it. It had books published after the incident occurred, ferfuxsake. And yet how many times was the list repeated as gospel across this board and the interwebz in general?

It's our own tendency to go off half-cocked that hurting us here. You don't need a Rove for that sort of thing. Remember the old Twilight Zone episode "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street?" That's us too often.

5. The list IS false. It's a list of ALL books that people have tried to ban all over the U.S.
going back years. One quick giveaway is that it includes a Harry Potter book that was published AFTER Palin was no longer mayor.

The truth is, there is NO list of books Palin tried to ban. She was basically discussing a hypothetical with the Wasilla librarian, trying to find out if, as mayor, she could order books removed from the library. But she never presented an actual list, and the list that's going around is a list compiled by a national librarian organization. (sorry, I don't have the name of the organization at hand)

8. Here's the 1996 Wasila newspaper article - she did want to censor
http://www.frontiersman.com/articles/2008/09/06/breaking_news/doc48c1c8a60d6d9379155484.txt">Palin: Library censorship inquiries 'Rhetorical'

In the wake of strong reactions from the city's library director to inquiries about censorship, Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin on Monday was taking pains to explain her questions about censoring library material were “rhetorical.”

Library Director Mary Ellen Emmons last week said Palin broached the subject with her on two occasions in October - once Palin was elected mayor Oct. 1 but before she took office on Oct. 14, and again in more detail on Monday, Oct. 28. Besides heading the Wasilla City Library, Emmons is also president of the Alaska Library Association.

The issue became public last Wednesday, when Palin brought it up during an interview about the now-defunct Liquor task Force. Palin used the library topic as an example of discussions with her department heads about understanding and following administration agendas. Palin said she asked Emmons how she would respond to censorship.

...

Emmons drew a clear distinction Saturday between the nature of Palin's inquiries and an established book-challenge policy in place in Wasilla, and in most public libraries.

“I'm not trying to suppress anyone's views,” Emmons said. “But I told her (Palin) clearly, I will fight anyone who tries to dictate what books can go on the library shelves.”

...

But on Monday, Oct. 28, Emmons said Palin asked her outright if she could live with censorship of library books. This was during a weak when Palin was requesting resignations from all the city's department heads as a way of expressing loyalty.

...
