16. She should be asked to reject that statement
If she doesn't, she could alienate nearly half of the country. (Note: Obama has a bigger majority of the new voters who came of age in the last 4 year years. Kerry's highest % was in the youngest group - Bush's in the oldest - that alone shifts the % possibly enough to win with just Kerry 2004 voters and the new voters)

22. This thread shows why we're in trouble. We've gone from attacking Palin to attacking Christianity.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 07:39 PM by kwenu
FOCUS ON THE TARGET!!! It is McCain/Palin!!! We want to show why they aren't right for this country's future not crap on religion. Crapping on religion is a LOSER no matter how it fits your personal view. For people who are so intelligent we become stupid when it comes to strategy. Do you want to win or not?

29. I disagree.
These people do NOT represent any branch of Christianity I'm familiar with. Oh no. They represent radical, fringe, right wing bigots, and they support not one Christian value. What's too bad is that they have managed to hijack the meaning of Christianity in this country. It's a real shame.

30. Yes. But the tendency is to lump the nuts in with the normal.
And that is what there is a tendency to do. The focus should be on why Palin (and her radical fundy group) is a nut and not take swipes at mainstream religion that is held by the overwhelming majority of people, many of whom live and let live.

49. I've been a church choir leader for 24 years
And I never felt a tinge of offense at the OP. That's because I see Palin's church as having very little in common with mine...or with most of Christianity, for that matter.

44. Another preacher story. Maybe this help some get a grip and remove their blinders.
This woman is a kook. She doesn't represent most American's values- just the strange far rights views. As for this story, I am sure there is a lot of truth in the story. Many priests and other ministers scared their parishioners into voting for Bush trying to claim Senator Kerry was bad. I worked with people who were afraid to mention Senator Kerry's name in public because they were afraid of being fired or expelled from their churches. What hypocrites they are and McCain has already made a trip to Philadelphia to speak with the Cardinal. Perhaps he is hoping for some of the same assistance they lent to Bush in 2004. I am not mocking the Chatholic religion, just the idea that voters should vote on one issue only and to hell with what else may be important. This is very narrow minded. However, shame on those who spewed this nonsense regarding Senator Kerry who was an alter boy and is religious but doesn't make a mockery out of his beliefs by exploiting them for political gains. He practices and lives his beliefs everyday.
These religious zealots are the reason we need to make sure that McCain and his side kick are not elected. It would be devastating for America.

It's time to use the "T" word. Theocracy. Very unAmerican.

Maybe follow-up with one on secession.

47. There was a pastor around here some years ago kicking out members for voting democratic
I live in PA, and somewhere in the tri-state area (or maybe Virginia, it wasn't right next door to me) there was one pastor who made the news when he effectively destroyed his own church with politics. I think he was trying to kick out members who voted for the democrats, that or maybe deny them communion or something, it was over 4 or 5 years ago. But basically the guy caused well over half of the congregation to resign in protest (they were more then just people who voted for democrats who quit).
