Let me ask direct: Would you be embarassed to be an American if McBush wins this election?
I absolutely would....The fact that this election will be close is a disgrace, Obama should have 400 electoral votes....I'm starting to think he should have selected Clinton as VP, because the economy is #1 issue, people remember the prosperity of the Clinton years, sure as hell wouldn't have hurt to have a Clinton on the ticket...Maybe I'm doing too much second guessing, but Obama is down in every f-ing recent poll, be it national or state by state.....

If McShithead wins, maybe I'll master a foreign language & just pretend I'm visiting the US on vacation from Europe, that way I can act like I don't live here..Cuz if Johnny wins, I'd be f-ing embarassed to be an American..

5. Yes. Humiliated.
I was actually surprised and grateful that the rest of the world (I've learned) realize that a large number of us are wanting to change with Obama, and they're rooting for us! I'd assumed they thought we all just thought Bush was okey dokey.

19. My honeymoon was in June of 2001 ...
we went to Jamaica and stayed at a resort. I remember to this day, with visual memory, a discussion I had with a younger couple from Germany.

They were just STUNNED that we picked Bush as president, and they knew on a very level headed basis, what I knew in an emotional way, that this guy was just a flat freakin moron. I got the sense that they were perplexed, but just assumed that we would give him the boot in 2004 and get back on track.

I think generally, people gave us a pass for freakin up in 2000, but reelecting this moron in 2004 cost us big, and if we don't get this one right, I think to A LOT of people, all the good will we banked up from WWII will be used up.

Oh, but one thing. I don't think Hillary would have made any difference on the ticket(on the bottom anyway). Sorry, but I just don't. If you think that somehow Hillary would have brought more Indies, or maybe more republicans to the mix, I'd really have to doubt that. And I like Hillary. Point being, who would vote for Hillary, that wouldn't vote for Obama?(other than the Puma's)

I think we have all of the possible voters already. I don't think this race is as close as they would like us to believe either.

15. If McBush wins I'm done with politics
That's it. I became a serious political junkie during the Impeachment of Clinton. Prior to that I always kept up on issues and voted every election, which is more than most people do. But the whole Impeachment thing made me take a serious look on how our governemnt function, what the priorities were and how paying more attention might be a good idea.

I've invested 10 years in serious involvement. If Obama loses, I'm done. If McCain is the direction this country chooses to go down, I am finished participating. I am too old for this. I'll still vote but as to making myself nuts about this. I'm done.

16. Yup.
I agree although I challenge the suggestion that Hillary on the ticket wouldn't hurt. If she had been on the ticket, Palin probably wouldn't have been selected, and the conservatives would have come out of the rotten plaster just to defeat Hillary, let alone Obama.

Please try not to give too much credence to polls. The only poll that matters is the election itself.

and if McCain wins, we will have another four years. Instead of sitting on our collective hams and feeling sorry for ourselves, however, we will need to keep the optimism and enthusiasm at Dem Convention levels! But hey, that's not going to happen!

18. I would simply be without hope. None.
If the Dems cannot win this year, pray tell under what conditions might they ever win? We didn't win in 2000 when the economy was good and we were not at war and the Democrats had the White House for 8 years, and now after nearly 8 years of Bush the economy is in the crapper and we are embroiled in 2 wars that are costing $10 billion a month not to mention all the lives lost. If the Democrats cannot win this year we do not deserve to be a major party because otherwise we appear to simply be feckless babes in the woods compared to the Republicans.

That aside, I am sure we will win. With hard work we need to endeavor to persevere.

And I've been embarrassed. I travel a lot. France I try to get to once a year - love Ireland, Netherland, Spain - dying to go to Israel, Brazil and India - probably will in the next few years.

I'm sick and tired of people assuming I'm an asshole like those freaks who vote Bush. It will only be worse. :-(

The third time's a charm. If we lose this one it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that American democracy is dead. The rest of the world shouldn't look down on Americans, they should intervene and help us out.

38. No. What it means to be an American (i.e. what our founding father's envisioned)
Is never tarnished, it just gets buried from time to time.

Even if you can't see it, you have to believe it's still there and still worthy of respect and admiration.

39. Yes and yes
Yes, I will be embarrassed and will look into other countries, I'll probably stay though. Yes he should have picked Hillary, she got roughly the same amount of votes as him, it would have been a tough ticket to beat. I'm not sure if Hillary was OK with being number 2 though. It's not the PUMAs that scare me, their votes will be cancelled out by the youth/new voters. It's the conservative/yahoo vote who are having dry orgasms over Palin that worry me, the base is very important for both parties.

I'll stay here, pay my taxes, and not break too many laws---but I'll personally write this country off, and figure it deserves whatever happens to it.

I'll also probably give up on DU---why put up with future years of non-stop, vengeful, I-Told-You-So Hillary supporters, or gun nuts whining that Obama could have won if he'd just embraced AK-47's and Ted Nugent....
