Obama lied.
He said "The American people aren't stupid."

I've never seen a more bald-faced lie than that.

Good luck trying to argue this one!

2. A lot of people in the world think Americans are stupid. They saw GWB in the White House for 8 years
Hard to defeat the impression that Americans are stupid after that mess.

10. If you take his quote in context:
"You remember that? For it before you were against it?" Obama added. "I mean, you can't just make stuff up. You can't just recreate yourself. You can't just reinvent yourself. The American people aren't stupid."

It's pretty clear (to me) that he's talking about the McCain/Palin supporters (because who is the audience listening to Palin? Who is she trying to "reinvent" herself for? US?? I don't think so.)

Obama was trying to be generous, you know how you say to someone "you'd have to be an idiot to believe that" and then of course they have to say "well no, of course I don't believe that...." Obama was trying to do that, but the problem is that the people he's talking about *are* stupid, and if he saw them applauding her idiocy he would know this.

If he thinks they are not stupid, then he's painted himself into a little corner where he believes there are smart people who support Palin even though they know she lies. In which case her lies simply do not matter.

I hope he's smarter than that though. I hope he realizes that stupidity runs deep amongst that sector of society. Because if he doesn't then he does not know what he's up against. It's just as dangerous to overestimate an opponent as to underestimate them.

He doesn't think they are stupid and that is why he is trying to reason with them.
I think maybe he is underestimating how many low-information voters we have out there.

4. Actually, he was imprecise...

There is a big difference between uneducated and unintelligent. Americans are now uneducated and are also somewhat brainwashed by repeated lies. This is strictly intentional. However, to the question of "has the average intelligence decreased over the period of time (10 years, 30 years, century), I don't think that's been answered.

BTW, in the 1970s, most school children that had trouble spelling could spell relief... ROLAIDS. And no, I'm not kidding.

Brainwashed. But not unintelligent. But brainwashed so completely that even when presented with facts and logic, continue to deny same in preference to the brainwashed "factoid".

*Sigh* Well then I guess World War III will come to pass exactly like I feared it would. Good grief people. Giving up is not and I do mean it when I say NOT an option. McCain and Palin can't be allowed to win. Trust me on this. None of you want to see what a McCain presidency will look like...

11. Trust me, I know what it would mean, and no way I want to see it
All I'm trying to point out is that giving those people the benefit of the doubt, as though we have some sort of concensus reality that we all agree upon and therefore can use logic and reason to convince voters -- is just not the case.

It just is not the case.

Plus it just pisses me off that he'd say they aren't stupid. I hope he doesn't really believe that. I mean, what if he does? I'm not saying he should call them stupid to their face or even behind their backs, but I also don't think he should say that they "aren't" stupid, either.

What is the condition called when someone is told a fact, shown the proof for the fact and yet still refuses to believe that fact? What do you call that?

12. SIGNED IN TO SAY WELCOME TO DU!
:hi:
signed in just because of that GREAT last sentence of yours! we DO NOT want to see what a McCain presidency will be like....

seriously, it will be worse than W.... these people are even more inexperienced/extreme than W...

how is that possible, I don't know, but it's fact. Palin would be president if McCain passes on from illness, and that could easily happen even before a swearing in! We MUST get everyone to vote... Since I know most AA's are Democrats I talk to nearly every one I meet and strike up a convo about the things we're buying or whatnot and then I say, well it's only going to get much worse if McCain gets in and how we need to get everyone out for Obama and encourage them to register people. Let's look at it this way, if every AA were to register and vote for the first AA to run for presidency on a major ticket as they should b/c his fight is theirs, O would win in an electoral landslide because we'd win Virginia and Michigan - and McCain desperately needs one of them... Let's pray he gets NEITHER!

13. Never under-estimate the ability of ...
... the dumbest American to smarten up when they're out of work, bankrupted by a medical emergency their healthcare "insurer" won't cover, and the foreclosure notice is being nailed to the front door.

There are now way more Democrats than there were just four years ago - that didn't happen because people are incapable of smartenin' up when it hits home.

16. can you wait until after the election before calling American's stupid
or at least qualify it, i.e.

log cabin republicans are stupid because they are voting against their own interest
women voting for mccain are stupid because they are voting against their own interest

After 8 years of lies, Americans are tired of this crap

A lot of Americans are feeling a lot of pain, and THEY are going to vote, and we are going to win
sorry about that
