Great news! My racist in-laws in Florida have decided to vote for Obama!!!
I've talked about them several times before. They're dems of the Ferraro type, elderly New Yorkers who still cling to racism. They're the ones who always forwarded anti-Obama emails to me and regularly called Obama "Obummer."

Anyway, they watched the CNN special on McCain and did NOT like what they saw. They were not impressed with his younger years at all and nothing he has done recently impressed them either. And they are horrified with his Palin pick. :)

So, ladies and gentlemen, there is reason to have hope today.

1. Fantastic! News like this is great!
The older vote in Florida could go a VERY long way in winning Obama the White House!

Give them a pat on the back from me!

5. I will. And I'm sure that a LOT of older voters who watched the
McCain special on CNN feel the same way.

2. Based on his early life story huh?
Yet another triumph of the personal vs. the issues...

12. Thing is, on the issues they were always dems. It was pure
racism that caused them to consider McCain in the first place. I think they had decided that voting for an "honorable" white guy was preferable to voting for a black guy who happened to agree with their issues.

But since that CNN piece, they've decided that McCain is not particularly honorable. And that really made them HAVE to consider their values. Strip honor away and all they had was his skin color. So they couldn't lie to themselves anymore about their reasons and had to face it head on. They did that I'm so very pleased.

8. They and other like them are the reason McCain lost 2 points post-convention in FL
According to Rasmussen: http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/09/peak-at-new-electoral-map.html

Ed Koch, the archetypical older conservative Jew, has also endorsed Obama due to Sarah "Jews For Jesus, Pray For Gays" Palin.

10. Just keep reminding them of all the positive things Obama wants to do
because they will probably look for a reason to change their minds as the election wages on...especially as personal attacks get uglier and uglier.

16. Someone needs to do a smackdown on Ferraro. She has been a big disappointment
all around. Truth is she wasn't a very good VP candidate for Mondale. Not that it would have made much difference but he should have gone with Jesse Jackson at the time, imo.

20. I can't think of one good thing she has done for the party or our
efforts to win the WH. And yep, Jackson would definitely have been better than Ferraro back then.

19. He was Catholic until he married his second wife who is
Greek Orthodox. So now they're both GO. But Palin didn't help the ticket when she made fun of the Catholic community organization that Barack worked for. They were highly offended at that. Orthodox churches of all kinds are really big on helping the needy. And their members don't take kindly when their efforts are made fun of.

22. Interesting that 'real issues' didn't really come into play

Her church thinks catholics aren't christians so you know what they think
about Greek Orthodox, which split with the Catholic church when Rome fell.

23. Yep. Most Catholics aren't aware that fundies don't think they're Christians.
One good thing is that most fundies don't go in for the holy rollin' thing, either. So this may have an added bonus for us in the end.

something she will put first in her ideology, people at least know Obama did show profound reverence whilst in Israel it debunked a lot of nonsense put out there about him. ONce people are more aware of how anti israel Palin's church is a lot of the game will change.

30. That is indeed good news! Thank you for sharing.
I just donated to Obama on DU for my neighbor -- a man who has never, ever donated to a campaign in his 71 years. Oh, and he's really tight with his money. LOL!

Personally, I believe there are many, many stories like these that will never make the "poll" or news.

I may be naive, but I don't see how anyone could vote for another republlican administration this time around.

Peace:kick:

33. A miracle!
I found the bio film shown at the GOP convention damning ... Ironically the GOP thought it was a good idea to proclaim McBush graduated fifth from the bottom of his class (890'ish total) and that he crashed five planes.

I love it when the opposition lobs a hand grenade into their own campaign inadvertently.
