Mark Halperin on CNN: "Stop the Madness!"
Speaking about the lipstick on a pig comment: "This is the press just absolutely playing into the McCain Campaign's crocodile tears. They knew exactly what he was saying-- it's an expression. And this is a victory for the McCain campaign, in the sense, that everyday they can make this a pig fight in the mud, it's good for them because it's reducing Barack Obama's message even more. But I think this is a low point in the day in one of the low days of our collective coverage of this campaign. To spend even a minute on this expression is amazing and outrageous."

1. And, he called them out to DO THEIR JOBS....
saying three of the four candidates have been heavily vetted. It's the media's job to get answers for the voters and, if the McCain camp is stopping it, that needs to be made public.

Nice. :)

5. Yes, I just finished watching that part
He was excellent. David Gergen was chuckling in the background while he was reading them the riot act. I'm guessing it was embarrassment that someone had to tell him how to do his job.

13. It's so frustrating, I wish we could humiliate the collective media...
and make them DO THEIR JOBS, including investigative journalism. 97% of them don't even know what that means any more!

Yikes.......

3. What do people want from Obama? Do they want him to stay above the fray or fight in the mud?
I say he is trying to do both right now and that is okay with me. Little zingers here and there to show he has enough grit to sling stuff at them too but in interviews take the high road.

4. He's whistling past the graveyard
He knows damn well that this is a huge Obama victory for the day, making the McCain campaign come out with their unhinged accusations, and making them look utterly ridiculous, since McCain himself used the expression on Hillary's health plan. He knows, and everybody knows, that Obama baited mcCain, and the dumbass took the bait. They just can't believe it because they're not used to acknowledging that a dem can fight and win.

6. EVERYTHING, according to Halperin, is "good news for McCain!",
even when he is pointing out the McCain campaign's ineptitude.

I stopped watching Morning Joe, but this is totally something, even though I think Joe is a tool, I could see Joe saying "oh, puh-lease" to and Mika saying "But IS it sexist? Maybe it is...." lol.

9. Wow, way to go Mark. I noticed he didn't blog about Pig Gate. What show was this on?
Did they do a whole segment on the comment?

Was Mark the only one that called it nonsense?

17. CNN, Anderson Cooper's show. It was just one segment...
maybe the OP remembers more detail. My impression/recollection is that he was the lone voice, though David Gergen was chuckling in the background.

22. No, he was simply the only one who spoke up about...
how ridiculous it was that the "pig" thing was being discussed, taking time away from issues, and he also specifically called out the media for not doing their job in vetting her more thoroughly in general, and not being persistent about it.

Anderson then said something to the effect that the McCain camp came down so hard on journalists, and they get "letters from readers" saying they're being too hard on her, and that's when Mark said if you're being prevented from interviewing her and getting information, you need to report that fact.

Hope that makes sense. :)

I'm not putting up with this crap this time. If McCain wins dirty, he'll regret the civil disruption afterward.
