Obama's Lipstick Comment Was About Palin
but Palin is not the "pig" she is the lipstick.

Think about it. The phrase means to dress up something undesireable so it appears more attractive.

The pig is brand Republican. Not a specific person, but the platform. Well, that should be pretty unpopular this year. The addition of Palin to the ticket seems to have added some excitement, helped give McSame a nice boost and energized the base.

She's a relative unknown, polls show a lot of people like her (I believe the two are related). So, the Republicans are using her to dress up their old ideas and try to make them sound fresh and new. But, look past the "lipstick" and it's the same we've had for the past 8 years.

They know they can't respond to the substance, so they fake outrage and pretend Obama called Palin a pig.

2. Maybe - but in the context of the speech, it was about their policies
I see what you are saying and I think it holds a lot of merit for a thinking person. But given the context, Obama was talking directly about McCain's policies, nothing more.

12. Thanks - I was at the town hall in question
No one else made the assumption it was directed at Palin and McCain - because people were listening and knew the context. It got a lot of laughs and applause because it was apt and fitting of McCain's policies directly compared to Bush.

He was complimentary of Palin as a mother towards the end of his prepared speech, but they somehow leave that part out of their outrage.

14. No, McCain's service and occasional non-deference is the lipstick...
His campaign, and the Republican brand itself, and the last decade of power consolidation by the Republicans--that's the pig.

How about just listen to what he said and take it for what it means.

well put.

I don't think McCain is the pig either. He's just doing what he has to do to win; he can't run an above-board campaign because he knows he'd lose that way.

So yeah, the faded memory of a guy who used to sometimes go against Republican dogma, is also the lipstick.

11. who cares. the greater insult to women is them yelling sexism whenever her name is mentioned
that does great harm to women. from a party that wants to keep women down, they are doing a wonderful job at hurting the womans cause

there is real sexism out there. that is like women yelling rape when there wasnt rape. then when a woman is raped it as lessened it

17. They are giving the undeniable impression that they want it both ways..
on the one hand they're telling everyone to lay off Palin, go easy on her, and on the other hand they're crying sexism.

16. It was brilliantly crafted and delivered..
he knew that the knee jerk reaction from McCain would be "sexism". I expect we'll hear more of these types of subtle digs over the coming days, and I'm sure Obama will figure eventually people will get sick of the hypocritical whining coming from the McPOW/Barracuda camp and start ignoring them.

18. I also suspect that they were well aware of the video that existed of McCain using the same phrase.
It's the perfect situation. It puts the McCain camp on defense, plus it makes them look hypocritical when they whine about it.

21. Baloney. Why is it so important that you get that meme out? You Are Wrong,
and I'm disappointed you couldn't be bothered to get to the truth. What's your agenda?

Again, this is what Obama said before the lipstick comment:

"John McCain Says He's About Change, Too - Except For Economic Policy, Healthcare Policy, Tax Policy, Education Policy, Foreign Policy And Karl Rove-Style Politics"

Seems directed entirely at McBush, but you keep pushing what you're pushing. :eyes:

30. Laughing Rather Than Crying
Really, the mock outrage on the part of the Republicans really bothers me - but when I watch the video of Obama delivering that statement, the way he sort of pauses makes me think of a comedian setting up a joke.

And to me, thinking of Palin as the lipstick is a metaphor for the Republican campaign.

My agenda is trying to maintain a sense of humor.

Edited on Wed Sep-10-08 08:59 AM by Froward69
"the difference between a pit bull and a hockey mom is lipstick."
So she is a pit bull with lipstick on, is the inference.

yet their proclamation of having been insulted reveals what she really is. An overly emotional delicate flower. whom cannot handle any insult even where none exists.

on edit... sara phalin is just a big talker and cannor handle the heat on low.

26. when you think about that statement of hers,
she's calling herself a pit bull in lipstick. She calls herself a dog, basically. McCain's attack dog.

How is that a positive statement about women? She's saying she's McCain's hired thug. She's demeaning women herself.

28. Actually it was about McCain's policy not Palin. the statemetn was made in the context
of Bush's last 8 years and McCain's continuation of his policies.

Bush was the pig, and McCain's campaign was the lipstick.
