Palin vowed to avoid negative campaigning in 2006
"Palin had vowed to avoid negative campaigning, and she focused her criticism on Knowles’ record as governor. She got a boost too from early television ads run by the Republican Governors Association, an independent group drawing money from national contributors. The leading candidates were otherwise close in campaign funds, with Knowles raising $1.4 million through the start of last week and Palin $1.2 million."
