Polls: Latinos favor Obama in 3 important battleground states
Polls: Latinos favor Obama in 3 important battleground states

By Kathy Kiely, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — New data released at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute's annual meeting Tuesday show that the Latino vote could be "crucial" for Barack Obama to win this fall, pollster Sergio Bendixen said.

In three of four battleground states where Hispanics make up at least 10% of the voting population, Obama had a distinct advantage over Republican John McCain among Hispanic voters, according to polls Bendixen took for NDN, a Democratic think tank. In the fourth state, Florida, a poll showed the two candidates were tied, he said.

NDN President Simon Rosenberg said the findings are significant because in 2004 "the key to George Bush's victory was his success with Latinos." Rosenberg said he believes last year's immigration debate "fundamentally altered" Hispanic support for Republican candidates.

1. This is so importante DUistas! Please do outreach to your Latino colleagues etc.
I really think they will be the ones who put it over the top in Florida, New Mexico and maybe CO.

2. The Hispanic vote is going to be especially crucial in NV, NM and CO
All states we need to secure for a victory. It might even come into play in Arizona, where a decent sized shift could put the state in the D column.

3. Some not so battleground state Dems
that I know have stated that they will not vote for Obama. I have told them that it sounds like racism to me because they can't give a good reason for their decision. This is Texas.

4. That's what it sounds like to me, too. Or, they aren't really Dems. If
they were, McBush wouldn't be tolerated.
