Hey, have you heard? Conservatives have discovered sexism in the media!

And they're learning that it's disrespectful toward women, potentially damaging to their careers, intrusive into their personal lives, and just plain unfair. That is, unless a feminist like Hillary Clinton is charging the media with sexism -- then it's called liberal whining or playing the gender card.

cut

Indeed, conservative hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me, and it's on full display right now. Palin's own statement referred to "Bristol's decision to have her baby" and GOP sound bites insisted that this was a private family matter. Right wingers also lauded Palin for choosing to carry to term her recent pregnancy after discovering the baby would be born with Down syndrome. But aren't these the same people who think that no woman or girl should have a choice?

In fact, Palin is on record as being against abortion even in the case of rape or incest or the health of the mother. And McCain has voted consistently against funding for birth control and family planning.

May I point out that this apparently unplanned pregnancy only highlights the right wing's foolish and dangerous abstinence-only education stance? Not to mention Palin's own line-item veto slashing funds for a center for teen moms in need just this year.

1. American Thinker (RW) - Palin Shows That "Feminism Is A Crock."
Edited on Wed Sep-10-08 01:04 PM by Median Democrat
You have to love the irony of the right wing celebrating the Palin selection as a means to attack women's rights and feminists.

It just goes to show that feminism is a crock.

You see, Sarah Palin is the "wrong kind" of woman for several reasons. She didn't attend elite colleges. She didn't abandon her small-town roots in search of more enlightened climes, like New York or Los Angeles. (I mean, Alaska...who the heck would want to live out there in the boondocks? Do they even have Starbucks?) She believes all life is sacred and therefore doesn't approve of abortion unless it is to save the mother's life. And finally, she got where she is today not only by not following the rules set forth by feminists, but she did it without bashing men. She understands that to play successfully in the big boys' sandbox, whining and crying about sexism and being treated differently isn't going to cut it. She even suggested in an interview with Newsweek earlier this year that Hillary Clinton put too much emphasis on the flack she received from the media during the Democrat primary:

"When I hear a statement like that coming from a woman candidate with any kind of perceived whine about that excess criticism or, you know, maybe a sharper microscope put on her, I think, man, that doesn't do us any good. Women in politics, women in general wanting to progress this country. I don't think it's, it bodes well for her -- a statement like that."

Bring out the torches and pitchforks!
