Can someone tell me what the deal is with Obama's Columbia transcripts.
I've seen some GOP die-hards practically salivating over them. Why?

15. The reason I am asking is because this seems to be a hot button on the right.
I personally don't care about either man's transcripts.

I encountered internet buzz and simply asked some questions to see if anyone knew what was going on and why the right seems to be getting their knickers in a twist over it.

Don't read this unless you need a good vomit right about now.

They think there's a reason he's not releasing them. I think they are hoping (beyond all hope) that his grades and McCain's will be similar. fwiw, I think they are also calling for his LSAT scores.

I know those words are tough to comprehend for the right wing, what with their war on intelligence.

I'd ask for Palin's transcript from North Idaho Junior College, but they probably didn't even have letter grades.

6. I know. Check this out
Warning. Make sure you have emptied your bladder. Remove all items that can easily be knocked over and sit down read this crapola. You'll be laughing so hard your sides will hurt.

For instance, we do not know for certain what Mr. Obama studied in his undergraduate days. He claims he majored in “international affairs,” which seems a bit unlikely for an undergraduate.

***

Moreover, we do not know why he was accepted into these schools in the first place. Obama himself has suggested he did not have the grades to meet their requirements.

By his own admission, Obama spent his final two years in high school skipping classes, playing basketball, doing cocaine and getting drunk.

Similarly, his admission to Harvard Law school is highly questionable. Where are his LSAT scores? And how does one graduate from Columbia without honors and yet get accepted at Harvard Law?

http://sweetness-light.com/archive/what-about-those-transcripts-mr-obama

I doubt they are asking the same questions of their own candidates. They sure aren't talking about McCain being a legacy who barely passed or Palin's erratic college record. Nor are they asking how they got into the schools they got into or what their grades were. The hypocrisy is so stunning it is mind boggling.

45. Funny what we go through, isn't it.
I got plucked out of the ghetto and got a chance to go to Brown University. I had always been a strsight A student. I came from segregated school system and so it took me a couple of semesters to adjust to the jump, but I scored straight A's the rest of the way out of Brown. Had a chance to go to any law school I wanted, so I went to Boalt Hall, University of California at Berkeley, because it was rated just about as high as Harvard/Yale, etc., but it only cost $800 a semester. It's a public institution.

Until people see me work, I can just see they think I'm one of those "don't deserve it" affirmative action blacks. Hell, they think that about all of us. LOL It gives me an extra kind of pleasure when I kick ass. LOL

In a lot of ways, I didn't even have to read Obama's book to know where he's coming from. We all have that dual identity, what Richard Ellison called the "marginal man". Existing in two worlds all the time.

<<By his own admission, Obama spent his final two years in high school skipping classes, playing basketball, doing cocaine and getting drunk.>>

I don't think this issue will be enough to separate the candidates. :-)

And, btw, as far as I know, the party (not necessarily with cocaine) continues for McCain.

But I did see a great T-Shirt yesterday on Santa Monica's nearly oceanfront 3rd Street Promenade. "I rather be doing cocaine off a hooker's ass."

Of course, a houseless guy was wearing it.

31. Barack and I are the same age
Actually he's about six months younger than I am. I spent my last two years in high school skipping classes, playing sports, doing coke, uppers, downers, pot, LSD, mushrooms, hash and getting drunk in OKC. Strike that, I spent my entire high school career living better through chemistry. It was what kids of my generation did. I don't think things have changed that much. In high school I was also a cheerleader, officer in a few clubs, and I also won several "Student of the Year" awards at my high school, the district and state levels and graduated with honors. The whole he "did drugs in high school" crap is, well high schoolish.

I have absolutely no concerns about Obama's intelligence, his academic record or his accomplishments. I am simply inquiring why this has become an issue with McCain supporters. This is the first I've heard of it and I thought someone here might no more about their interest than I do at this time.

Obama has enough in his educational CV; no point in suggesting he graduated first in his class, which is easily debunked.

If it were me, I'd rather have "Editor of Harvard Law Review" than "I graduated first" on my CV, any day. :-)

getting a bit twitchy with all the covert ops and trolling from the right. I can see how my question could be construed as having the potential for shit-stirring.

I stumbled onto the issue (non-issue) when I was scrolling through some comments at a YouTube video. First I'd heard of his transcript being a source of consternation. Googled and saw a surprising amount of chatter about it.

I assumed someone here would know what the hubub was all about. Once again it appears to be much ado about nothing, grasping at straws, and general all around inferiority praying they have a leg to stand on when drafting attacks. I guess they're going to have to stick with spin and lies. But they do it so well it won't be a stretch for them.
