Several times, he directed scorn toward the media, saying reporters were playing into the hands of the McCain campaign on the pig-lipstick issue.

“Nobody actually believes that these folks are offended. I mean think about it, right? These are the Republicans who spent a whole bunch of time getting all huffy about ‘why are you being all politically incorrect?’ Suddenly they are all up on their ‘oh you know we’re shocked,’ everybody knows it’s cynical!” he said to laughter. “Everybody knows it’s insincere. The media knows it. I mean this is a game that we play. It’s a game. It’s a sport and maybe if this wasn’t such a serious time that would be okay.”

Obama’s focus on kitchen-table issues like tax cuts and paying for college is one his campaign hopes will help him win over middle class voters in this red state he wants to turn blue.

Today, he continued to try to drive home his point that he would be better for the working families than McCain would on taxes and other issues, saying at one point that with the Arizona senator “the only change you’re going to get are some pennies in your pocket.”
