What can Obama campaign do to get control of the media cycle next week?
given that this week we are concentrating on pigs in lipstick and 9/11, what can the Obama campaign do get on the offensive next week? We have to get a good three day controling the media cycle in.

1. Besides the lipstick
he has controlled the media. The press has been very negative on Falin overall and BO has been on MSNBC, FOX Snooze, Letterman, etc. In addition they have been attacking and the media treated the lipstick as a really stupid issue.

2. Give a big speech
I'm serious. Give a big speech about the effects of distraction on the political process, and show how the whole country can rise above it. Obama is good a this kind of thing. He should let his oratory carry the cycle.

3. That's not a bad thought. Make the McCain circus the issue and how they are trying
to ignore real issues.

4. The only problem would be time
Obama works on his oratories carefully, sometimes reducing his appearances to prepare them. Many other bizarre attacks could happen. However, some themes are already present in his campaign addresses. He could use a speech to give a comprehensive image of what is happening, how it can be spotted in the future, and discuss the general damage it does.

5. Emphasize that Americans ARE SMARTER than that.....
Edited on Thu Sep-11-08 12:16 PM by State the Obvious
Americans put up with these divisive tactics in Election 2000, and again in 2004, and they are tired of Republicans assuming that they can successfully do this AGAIN. (Connect Rove's name to these tactics.) Rove worked for Bush in 2000 election, 2004 election....and now he is advising McCain with the same tactics. Enough. Make these divisive Republican tactics the issue, and INSIST that Republicans talk about what is important to America.

NO to more of the same. NO to John McCain.

7. Buy A Network? Big Media Is Biased. Not In Democrats' Control
The assumption in your question is that the Democrats can do something, and that Big Media would impartially cover any announcments or activities. However, Big Media is not impartial. For example, in the lipstick controversy, Big Media has not questioned whether McCain is too thin-skinned to be President, while Big Media has asked this question of Obama whenever he has reacted to a smear.

Its a double standard that the Democrats do not control.

10. He can't. They will turn everything he says and does into evidence
that McCain is running a brilliant campaign.

13. Oh please. They will hail her as brilliant, exceeding expectations, underestimated--
just as they did with Shrub. Why are people here so naive?

15. Put out a series of ads painting McCain/Palin as liars.
McCain's strength is based on the myth of his integrity. Palin's popularity is based on her blunt folksy speak. They need to outright call them a liars and use the actual word "liar". They need to not only focus on the obvious lies like the bridge to nowhere but paint both their numerous flip/flops as lies. I'd use copy of McCain opposing drilling followed by his drill drill here. Mix it in with Palin's bridge to nowhere lie. Mixing flip/flops with obvious lies paints them both with the same brush and would attack McCain/Palin at his strength. They need to follow it up with surrogates who reinforce the liar message.
