Did it occur to you that there might never be a 2012 election?
Edited on Thu Sep-11-08 01:40 PM by Cyrano
I truly believe that McCain is mentally unstable (perhaps due to Vietnam). And I truly believe that Sarah Palin is as great a threat as the "God-fearing, righteous, dispenser of God's word", and probably insane, James Dobson.

While I wish McCain no ill, Palin might just end up being president before the next four years pass. If you really want something to fear, fear "End-timer" Sarah.

As an orthodox agnostic, I don't pray. But at the moment, I'm praying my ass off that Barak Obama becomes the next president of the United States.

(And, yes, I know the old saying "pray in one hand and pee in the other and see which one fills up first"). So in addition to praying, I'm working my ass off.

But that's my take on the state of the union. What's yours?

1. Well, the Mayans would say there would be no 2012 election.

8. Actually --
The elections would occur about 5 weeks before the end of the world.

13. Yes, you are right. The gravitational havoc doesn't happen until after the election.
And welcome to the DU.

11. a secularized version of the RR End-Timers.
"the Mayans would say there would be no 2012 election."

So would a lot of posters on the Rapture Ready boards-- of which, some days I think this place is becoming a secularized version of the RR End-Timers.

14. I guess you didn't know I was joking.
I've been here at the DU so long (since early 2001) that I assume everyone knows I am a science nut, so I make comments that should have the sarcasm mark by them.

No fundie here, LanternWaste.

17. I was playing off your sarcasm.
I was playing off your sarcasm and targeting our dear DU End-of-Timers.

You were fine w/o the sarcasm tag... I just need to learn to write a little better :)

15. Please tell me you're joking...
:eyes:

I'm not trying to be an "elitist-I-know-more-than-you" person, but really...sigh. I spent a day trying to assuage my students' fears that this is not the reality that people seem to think it is.

2. People said the same thing about 2004 and 2008
In fact, some of the tinfol-hatted commenters on Common Dreams are still insisting that there won't be an election in November, because the alien lizards who really control the world will never allow it.

7. Yeah, I'm really tired of hearing this.
2004 happened, and 2008 is about to happen...barring a military coup, 2012 will happen too.

6. Geez you are really bumming me out. First your post:
"Let's ponder the unthinkable. What if we lose this election?" and now this post.

I just can't think about the unthinkable! :scared:

Like you, I am working my ass off to get Obama elected and I say we are going to win!!!!

Read the smiley's lips:
:applause:
O BA MA!

10. I too believe we are going to win. And we're going to win BIG.
Nonetheless, we must all prepare for the best and have a fall back position for the worst.

In no way am I pushing defeat or hopelessness. I just want everyone to be aware of the scum we are fighting and what we are up against if they manage to pull off another theft. Then again, why would anyone need to be reminded of that?

BUT then I remember the old phrase - a self fulfilling prophecy.
