New voter registration numbers - very good news
Many of you were asking what has Obama done with your money? Well, take a look at this graphic that shows the work Obama campaign has been doing.

As you can see, there are some huge numbers in there, particularly in PA, MI, FL and NC. Where party affiliation is available, don't be fooled the dem % is bellow 50 as the remaining percentage is split between republicans and independents.

Also note the precentage of voters under 35 years of age - the strongest Obama group where he is trouncing McCain in every single poll.

Do you think the pollsters poll these new registered voters? Do you think they have registered to vote for McCain?

12. Generally speaking
The Obama T-shirt tends to scare away people who don't support Obama...however, we do register anyone regardless of who they support. Mainly because it is the law.

20. when you register "American Independent"
you are actually joining the party established by George Wallace...therefore it is the party of the KKK and nazis. Declined to state is actually the category for "independent".

These people aren't being polled by the way.

Chances are good they will vote Demo. They will if they see Palin's record On Natives.

10. I think the only think stupider than a Gay Replican is a Black Republican.
The only thing MINDBLOWINGLY STUPIDER than a Black Republican is Native American Republican.

I live for the day when they catch a FReep on camera calling Native Americans "un-American".

Fight the good fight!

5. Thank you for this. Any charts from before 2004 showing Dem registrations outnumbered GOPs?
Because, according to the exit polls, those people did come out and many of their votes disappeared.

13. I have run across Obama volunteers doing registration and canvassing
several times in the normal course or my regular routine. They seem to have a regular spot at the local library. Also, I have been told that they have organizations in all the high schools. Hoping for the best here in NC :)

14. In Charlotte we were advised not to have them fill out an affiliation
Some of these numbers may look lower than they are for Dems. When I canvassed in Charlotte, our Obama HQ people told us that we shouldn't encourage people to fill out an affiliation on their voter registration form unless they wanted to. The reasoning was that we didn't want to make people feel pressured to associate with a party unless they wanted to. The goal was to get them registered as easily and quickly as possible.

17. Wouldnt most registrations be for younger folks?

I'm wondering that the norm is.

I'm just thinking that in general, old folks would already have been registered in prior elections.

Those numbers look good, I'm just wondering how they compare to other elections in the past.

19. Wonderful news, and an encouraging post, but
Edited on Thu Sep-11-08 04:15 PM by jkshaw
are we also making sure that these newly registered voters will actually be allowed to vote with the Republicans working like beavers at voter suppression, caging, and voter roll purging?

I keep reading about 20,000 purged here, 1500 purged there, which is very worrisome. How can we make sure our newly registered democrats are not disenfranchised? I live in Utah, not a swing state; are there watchdogs in the swing states?

21. We always dominate the new registrations during a presidential year
That doesn't necessarily equate to a similar advantage over the past 4 years. I started a thread in that regard in fall 2004 and got yelled at but the numbers backed it up. Florida is always a relevant example. The GOP quietly adds to its registration rolls for 4 years, then we desperately make a push in the final 6 or 9 months. That wins the headlines but it doesn't always reveal the true relationship of new voters.

We had some excellent gains in 2006 also, so it's somewhat more legit this time. However, elections are won via preference, not turnout. This isn't like a caucus where Obama's supporters are going to swamp the opposition in enthusiasm and numbers. That's fool's analysis. Obama needs to regain some energy and an effective message and win this thing on preference, particularly among white women. That's always the vital block. The closer he can keep that percentage to even, the better off he is.

23. Since the beginning of the summer, GA has registered between 100K - 150K
It's been amazing! I've been out nearly every week this summer going door to door in new neighborhoods in my area registering people.
