Maybe it is different in places but there are always empty phone lines where volunteers should be turned away for lack of spots. The number of volunteers for some things is great, as for special event crowds, some canvassing. The fewer the volunteers, the greater the psychological and physical burden on those carrying the outreach load which is intimidating to many good folk. Volunteers are NEEDED not just for the work but to support the other volunteers. Mobs and parades that never get fair media exposure are exciting and supportive to participants but getting to the grunt work bogs down the real success of this year's effort.

Volunteer and show even for a little bit. Yak it up with your fellow workers(but not so much as to stop covering ground!). We are not engaged as a nation or even as activists as much as we can or must by a long shot, no matter the stories you hear about the big picture or the new tactics.

Some volunteers find certain things very hard, and believe me, some of those people are showing up and would find it a lot better if more people would put out with them.

i am so scared at all the people running around so friggin scared. geeeesh

I keep my clipboard with me and even when I'm driving and I've gotten 4-5 people buy taking it with me into a convenience shop on my way home. It's pretty incredible.

There are also phone lists we need help with -- people from blue states can help swing states by calling swing state voters.

remind everyone to CHECK with their registration
if they have recently been foreclosed on or moved, make sure they change their address at the DMV and voter registration
warn people not to fill out absentee ballots without reading fine print (goppers sent out fraudulent ones)
help elders vote
sign up young people!
