Viral emails-- Fighting back but I need your help
We all get them. Those nasty and false claims about Obama the Muslim or some other nonsense.

In the past I have done a "reply all" with a counter from snopes or factcheck but not I want to fight fire with fire and send out factually correct info to these folks that will scare them about McCain/Palin in particular and Republicans in general.

The problem is that every time I think I've got a good story or opinion piece (usually from a post here at DU) to send I look at it from the "conservative" mind set and realize that this stuff would encourage them not scare them. Calling Sarah Palin a false feminist would be met with cheers. Saying Palin is for war with Russia would not be helpful with a crowd that still things Iraq had weapons of mass destruction either.

So help me out here, DU.

Point me to some little stories or factoids that WOULD scare these right wing religious whack jobs and give them at least momentary pause about their support of McCain/Palin. Remember, though, that what scares us would probably encourage them.

1. You won't win over the 30%. Go for the swing voters.
I don't think many of them are ready for war with Russia. Keep sending out links to the vid with her threatening war with Russia. Ask if they and their kids are ready for that.

2. Stress that their policies are not mainstream America...
they are extremist policies, and would not benefit the majority of Americans. They are so far to the right they are not in sync with American values and beliefs.

Just a thought, and the one I've been using lately.

Also the idea that what has been going on the last 8 years is not working for the vast majority of Americans. It is time to try a different approach, because more of the same will not work, and considering the extreme platform and ideals of McSame/Shamin ticket, will most likely make things worse. We can't take the chance. We need to move this country back to the middle, and only Obama/Biden offers that possibility.

3. here's some ideas--use the DU thread reacting to her war with Russia remark
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 05:53 AM by ima_sinnic
This is a copy of an e-mail I sent out yesterday evening--my little list is all Obama supporters, but I know the thread on DU has a lot of good insights into what it would mean to even start to go to war against Russia. Tie that in with her delusional, extremist, rapturist whacko beliefs (which by the way really does not get that much support--think Alan Keyes) and you've got one insane bimbo. Anyone who can't catch that within a reasonable time is hopeless.

The commentary on Democratic Underground re Palin's remark (in an interview this evening w Charlies Gibson on ABC) that it'd be necessary to wage war on Russia if it invaded Georgia--scroll down past the list into the full comments, there are some good insights as well as repartee there. This woman is totally insane and clueless, and the ramifications of her remark really need to be shoved in anyone's face who is even remotely thinking of voting for that duo. It's good that ABC is apparently genuinely alarmed about this, bannering the remark, but this needs to be publicized.

There are quite a few comments about the apocalyptical aspect of the all-out nuclear war she and McCain both are basically promising. People shouldn't forget that she has been a member of a religious sect or cult, the Assemblies of God, since (I believe) a young age. She is the culmination of 20 years of infiltrating of government, starting at the school board level, by the extremist religious right. Among other things, the Aof G are "rapturists" who believe that the world will dissolve in a big conflagration when Israel is attacked/destroyed, as Jesus comes back and they are "raptured" to heaven, leaving us heathens and unsaved to fight the fiery flames of hell. These are very delusional, scary people--but of course, only Reverend Wright is worth getting worked up over. She did say in some interview a while back that she believed "the rapture" would happen during her lifetime. She is a "Dominionist" (Google that and be afraid).

She & McCain are also going to be campaigning only together (was mentioned in the news today). Neither one can make it without the other--McCain can't get any attention and will draw no one to his speeches; Palin can draw a crowd but is unfit to give speeches on her own. It's the co-dependent presidency.

But her own absence from the public eye and then, at a few campaign stops, repetition of her prewritten, venomous speech that has been broken down into a list of total lies seems to be making the veneer wear off. Each day is actually a new delightful scandal involving "Mooselini."
