Yeah--You and Whose Army?
by Paul Reiser

So everyone's talking about the nasty spike of nastiness in the presidential race--a spike brilliantly orchestrated by the Republican machinery--and Republican John McCain takes a moment to point out that even this is Barack Obama's fault.

Y'see, all the crap being thrown at Obama--the fear-mongering, the half-truths, the full lies--all the character assassination hurling Obama's way, is in fact, his own doing.

"I think the tone of this whole campaign would have been very different if Senator Obama had accepted my request for us to appear in town hall meetings all over America," the Senator from Arizona tells us.

Am I just losing my friggin' mind? Seriously. I keep looking around the room to see if I'm living in some suddenly altered state where everything we know is now called the opposite, and nobody notices. Or can stop it.

"I wish I didn't have to take your lunch money, but you shouldn't of hadda brung it."

We're in the 3rd grade again. The skinny, smart kid who just moved in to the neighborhood is getting roughed-up by the asshole bully. The kid who hits you in the head with your hand and says, "Why're you hitting yourself? Why're you hitting yourself?"

"Um, actually I'm not. You're hitting me."

3. "iving in some suddenly altered state where everything we know is now called the opposite"
It becomes even more apparent when you come back after having been abroad for awhile.

Other western nations have managed to stay relatively sane- partly, I think, because they have nothing that approaches the levels of mendacity displayed every day by the corporate media or the vitriolic hate radio that's proliferated in every community in the states (usually to the exclusion of other rational views).

He's not worthy to tie Paul Reiser's shoes. :applause:

7. WTF is up? Why are celebrities saying crap that the media should be saying?
First Matt Damon and now Paul Reiser.

11. Celebrities get people's attention.
People pay attention to what they say -- even the "low-information voters."

Screw the mega-corporation media.

I'm very glad liberal celebs are speaking out and hope many, many more of them do.

12. Celebs have been speaking out for quite some time.
But now, the stakes are higher and the needs more desperate.

Some of us are fighting for our lives while others are fighting to maintain their lifestyles.

I'm usually not a fan of celeb opinions but I have found myself curious for their take on this election. Especially the opinion of those who started out as "starving artists".

13. What burns me is that the celebs are doing a better job than our so-called news media
WTF isn't the "news" being critical at all about stuff that normal people automatically go, "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?" It's why ridiculous ideas that are not mainstream at all amongst the people and are fringe are allowed such huge play in the mainstream media. Because they're fucking lazy assholes.

10. Or the equally ridiculous
If you had named Hillary as VP, then we wouldn't have named Palin -- so Palin is Obama's fault. OTOH, that claim is a tacit admission that the only reason Palin is on the ticket is because she's a woman and that she wouldn't have been considered had Hillary been on the Dem ticket.
