Visiting America...a strange homecoming
Due to a family emergency (my partner's Mom is dying) we had to fly back suddenly from Canada to Colorado to visit. We left Colorado 2 years ago and immigrated to Canada, and have never been happier. Living in Toronto has been wonderful and we have assimilated to Canadian culture.

Coming back to our hometown has been surreal; the campaign commercials on TV for McCain and Obama are running non-stop. There are bumper-stickers for Obama everywhere, none for McCain, but a few that say "Nobama." More than that there is the mood in the air in public.

We went out for dinner tonight to celebrate my partner's mother's life, and have a supportive family dinner. being the good Irish Catholics that they are, we opted for a pub :-) It was amazing to listen to the conversations around us; people were fighting, at times loudly, about the election. Democrats are not being shirking violets here and are making sure to emphasize how important this election is. The security guard at the Hospital when he scanned our ID's was interested about Canada, and once he found out we were ex-pats, asked us "please come back downstairs after your visit and tell me about the immigration process, I'm scared if this election gets stolen I'll have to leave too."

All in all, it's been an eye-opener, I've never seen an electorate so charged.

2. Sorry about your partner's Mom; that's a bummer. But the rest of
your story is very uplifting and hopeful. I also envy you for living in Canada; one place I've never been to, but hope to see. I know why Dems are not being shirking violets - we're angry as Hell and don't intend to let them steal this election. I know I'm a lot louder than I used to be and get into
heated arguments with total strangers a lot. It's more fun this time though because we are in the right this time and we know it. Enjoy your visit; enjoy your life. Peace.
