AmericaBlog shares an e-mail
http://www.americablog.com/2008/09/viral-emails.html

From time to time, I'm going to share interesting viral emails I get about the election:

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."

* Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

(end snip)

1. I think that the last two are worthy
of being split into more. Particularly because of the Community organizer vs mayor quip

When Obama was a community organizer, Palin was runner up Miss Alaska and a sports reporter
When Obama was president of Harvard law/constitutional law prof/civil rights lawyer, Palin was running for city council.
When Obama was a state senator for 750000, Palin was mayor of 6000
When Obama was elected US senator for 13 million people, Palin was working on the Ted Stephens excellence 527
When Obama was working to earn the votes of 50 states, She was governor of one of the smallest.
Now that Obama was elected with 17 million votes, she was chosen by one. Which one is a point of contention.

As a side note, I just did some checking. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that of all the elected governors of the 50 US states, Sarah Palin was elected by the fewest number of voters.

I only specifically checked for states with populations under 1 million. She got 114k votes, with 683k residents. For comparison, the governor of N Dakota got 220k from 639k residents. S. Dakota Gov got 189k votes out of 796k residents. Even Wyoming, with the smallest population of 522k, awarded their governor 135k votes, or 21k more than Palin was able to wring from Alaska.

As a side side note, who knew that the governor of Wyoming was a democrat?

2. gop is orgasmic that she isn't a pedophile and is crazy
she's just like they like'em.

Unless she is caught up in some real nasty sex scandal, she's got it made.

In fact, I don't think the repugs will care.

They only lose elections if their male congressmen get caught trying to mess with little boys or other men.

3. She's a "career politician", just like McCain.
Neither of them have had successful careers outside of politics.

5. Barack is an Old Testament name
It comes from the word Baruch.

There is also a character in the Bible named Barak, who was a general who I remember to be a pretty big failure. He served the judge named Deborah. The first female leaders of Israel.

I read somewhere that Barack Obama's name actually comes from Baruch, though, who was a servant of the Prophet Jeremiah and read his prophecies to the people, who mocked them.

It's late, PM me if you really want to search for the source. I'll have to do it next week sometime.

Thanks,
