if we really lose...
If we really lose...

I'm not talking about having it stolen. That's a different issue altogether.

But if we really lose, I think it will be because of all the deference that the Denver convention showed to John McCain. The convention was too nice to John McCain.

I understand the thinking that went into it, but I still think it is poor campaign management to have most of your key speakers go out of their way to praise your "hero" opponent.

When will the Democratic politicians ever learn? "Nice" doesn't work. Ask Dukakis, Gore and Kerry.

Democrats just have to start bashing in the skulls of the Republicans. Just tell the truth and make them think it's hell!

Don't get me wrong. I still think Barack is the odds-on favorite. But if this thing falls apart, I think it will be because too many Democrats praised John McCain too much.

2. the campaign isn't over...
Think of my post as constructive criticism, because that's what it is.

I said Obama is still the favorite to win, at least in my mind. And I hope that's true.

But Obama and his people need to stop praising McCain.

3. I hate to disagree with you at 3 am, but McCain was a 'dead duck'
until he brought the energizer bunny on the scene. I think she is a truly evil person but she does have "pazazz" - damn it. I think she is already plotting how to become Madame President!!!

Edited on Sat Sep-13-08 05:15 AM by SilverSRT4Turbo
Thats what this whole sarah palin bullshit is about, knock us off our game...send us into "panic mode" then have people like you second guessing the whole dam thing. Im not meaning to sound harsh, but look at what we have been handed here....

The only REASON he picked this women is BECUASE of that speech!!!!! This is what people dont realize. He knew that experience bullshit and celebrity without a message bullshit was not going to work! He has shown his hand and played all his cards. If we come out with too much force then we get to hear that "ANGRY BLACK MAN!! MAD BECAUSE THE WHITE WOMEN STOLE HIS SPOTLIGHT!!" garbage. If we play it cool and attack when we can they will slowly be deconstructed under their own bullshit. We dont need to speed that process up or they will play the liberal media card all night long.

I dont care if the dam polls show us down by 20....keep fighting because the 4TH is what matters...... if we lose on the 4TH then we can talk about it.

7. who is whining?
Mr. Schwarzenegger, I was merely making an observation. If my observation is correct, there is still time for proactive measures. If it is incorrect, I have only wasted a couple of seconds of your, and my, time.

12. Sorry I can't agree
I believe that the convention addressed the american people as adults, and respect was one of the touchstones of that approach. The nasty, ugly name calling and big bad wolf gimmicks of conventions have alienated a lot of people from party politics, so that while going negative might rally the troops, it sets a tone that would have undercut the deeply thoughtful and respectful approach which is the Obama appeal.

A lot pf us are very greatful to have a candidate who recognizes the intelligence of the general populace.

16. Counterproductive post
Edited on Sat Sep-13-08 05:44 AM by kayell
Every single post like this is completely counter productive to our cause. Whining and worrying just works to bring down other people, no matter what your reasoning. At this point I don't care who is posting something like this or why. It just isn't worth wondering.

IMO you and every other whiner and moaner need to take a time out until you're ready to contribute productively to helping WIN this election.

21. Obama will win.... if every word he says is BUSH/MCCAIN.....
Edited on Sat Sep-13-08 06:04 AM by ClarkBayh 2008
time & time again, our party & its ad people just don't understand the pulse, the gut,
the feelings of the average swing state voter. Why aren't we hearing every ad say
Bush/McCain policies & Bush/McCain tax giveaways to the wealthy?

These Americans that decide the election are basically slightly red, yet the Dems continue to put up candidates who
are PERCEIVED or can be proven to be left of center.

Obama should still win, even in the event of a tie, if he stands up well in the debates, and Bin Laden is not captured.

But let's be frank, a campaign with such a huge money advantage & an
advantage is sheer brain power should
have been prepared for any hail mary GOP VP selection.
Even one as maliciously political as this one.

We should be seeing/hearing/talking about nothing EXCEPT the BUSH/McCain tax cuts, BUSH/McCain health care, BUSH/McCain economy.....
It should be just as frequently mentioned as the race card, the gender card & all the lipstick nonsense....
This race is about Bush/McCain if you really want to win....

22. LOL... I don't think so...
If we really are smarter than the other party, we
analyze the electorate, why we lost prior races,
adjust our approach, & make sure we don't lose
in the future.

Are we really smarter than the GOP?
Not if we don't learn from our previous errors.

23. It's just too goddamned depressing to come in here sometimes.
The negativity in here is ridiculous.

Now we're doing analysis of why we lost even though the election is 2 months away. Even when the debates haven't happened yet.

Maybe it would be best for me to stay away from DU for a bit. I believe we're going to win. Sorry if that doesn't fit in with your pre-election doom and gloom.

26. I think you're dead wrong
If they'd attacked McCain head on at the convention, Obama would have been the "angry black man" and the democrats would have been "unpatriotic scum daring to attack a war hero." McCain would have gotten the pity vote.

They played it *exactly* right. Respect for his "service" but he lacks the judgement or temperament for the job. It is because they played it exactly right that McCain played the "ace" up his sleeve. They called the shots -- it's about judgement and temperament -- and forced his hand.

Now they can watch as that "ace" turns into a butane lighter in a firecracker factory, and they can attack McCain's judgement at will, until his temper blows.

McCain flashed his "ace" and then tried to hide her before anyone found out the truth, first by sending his damage control team to Alaska in a vain attempt to scrub her record. And then by keeping her out of sight except for scripted, teleprompted speeches.

First the unbelievable string of scandals. "Dallas" meets "Northern Exposure." That fire is still sitting on the back burner waiting to blow just in time for the election.

Then they were called out on hiding her, and again their hand was forced and they had to put her out in front, unscripted Failin', for everyone to hear. Now every time she opens her mouth, stupid comes out. Unbelievable stupid.

I remember what my karate teacher taught us. He had black belts in half a dozen martial arts, plus was a tai chi master.

If you try to win with a single knockout punch, you will open yourself to a creaming. So you don't try to win with a knockout punch. You just keep hitting and hitting and hitting.

McCain on his lack of judgement. What was he thinking? It's just a matter of time before he loses it in front of a camera. The testiness in his interviews is starting to show. If they drug him enough not to blow, he sleepwalks and looks like he has dementia. If they don't drug him enough, then it's simmering right below the surface.

27. People don't remember what they ate for breakfast yesterday!
Memories are notoriously short. I doubt that most voters will be able to recall much of the convention come voting time.
