4. Now that we know the devastation. It's a good choice.
But I have to say that I am utterly disappointed at the people who IGNORED evactuation order (hundreds of thousands of people) and chose to stay there, and are now begging to be rescued. You have put first responders in danger to rescue you, when you could have left with everyone else. What is with Texas? I mean, half the citizens of some cities refused to leave. Did people learn nothing from Katrina? If they ask you to go.. then GO. And I send sympathy to those that were unable to leave...

7. A big part of the problem is the catagory system
Ike is an unusual hurricane. He has Category 2 winds, but his storm surge was more on part with a Category 5 hurricane simply because he was so big and had so much energy in the ocean. The category system for hurricanes only takes into account the wind speeds, though, under the assumption that wind will be causing most of the damage. They really need to update the category system to account for all the potentially destructive aspects of a storm.

There's a lot of people all around the Gulf that'll stay home for a standard Cat 2, and very few weather sources were talking in plain terminology about how bad the surge was going to be. So people felt that the warnings were melodramatic and they didn't want to be part of another evacuation nightmare like during Rita.

right decision.

6. that's our Obama
SNL is a trap anyway, it would generate endless Youtube clips of him being pelted with a banana cream pie or whatever they consider observational humor nowadays (french-kissing Bill Gates) (in Kevin Nealon sotto voce)

8. Excellent move that had to be done. Let him come on SNL when he can blast away
without having the pundits crucify him for not taking the hurricane seriously. Kudos to him for doing the obvious.

BTW, I think Michael Phelps will be on instead. Woopie do.

11. It was going to be both of them
and I knew Obama wouldn't go on it light of Ike in Texas.

10. I'm glad he did. I was a little worried it would give mcSame fodder.
Even though it was McSame eating the birthday cake with Bush... labeling his polar opposite with an action McSame actually did is not beyond the GOP repetoire. They already claim to be for change. They claim Obama is for old policies. Nothing would stop them from claiming Democrats don't care about hurricane victims.

Nothing will stop them from projecting their own faults onto their enemies. The GOP truly use the tools of psychopaths in their campaigns.
