3. How do they benefit by preventing early voting?
Didn't they send out lots of mail-in ballots?

8. The requests for absentee ballots have been trashed by the Sec of State
McCain's bunch deliberately added a box needing checked to certify the person asking for an absentee is qualified to vote and most people filling out the form didn't check the box. The form used was of McCain's making, not the official Ohio absentee ballot request form. The McCain plan was to use the incomplete request form to nullify the absentee vote of 1000's of Ohio voters. No surprise these absentee ballot request forms were filling out by McCain operatives canvasing highly Democratic areas of Ohio, most likely to vote Obama.

The Ohio Secretary of State caught it and is making every county contact every single one of the voters who filled out the McCain created form incorrectly and supply them with a valid request form and instructions on how to fill it out properly.

11. Early voting benefits us most
People who have to work two or three jobs to make ends meet, single parents struggling with child care, people without reliable transportation, the elderly and disabled, would all appreciate being able to vote at a time of their convenience during a several-week period rather than bet on being able to get to the polls on November 4th and being able to stay there for what could be hours if lines are long.

23. Excellent point
That's why the Obama campaign and other organizations have been pushing voter registration hard in the last several months.

Also, it's why I'm glad we in Wisconsin and quite a few other states have same-day registration so if you haven't registered by election day you can still show up and register just before voting. But it's better to take care of that in advance just in case there are problems to iron out.

25. Remember 2004?
People had to literally wait in line hours in order to vote in OH in 2004. Since this was in more urban, predominately Democratic area, there is no telling how many people chose not to vote because of this. Early voting avoids this by guaranteeing that people can vote at their own convenience, and it also reduces the number people trying to vote on election day.

4. Tells me they dont expect McCain to hold his current small advantage
If they thought he could keep his momentum going they would LOVE early voting, as it would lock in the easily swayed voters into voting for him.

10. The Dem Ohio Sec of State is good and is making sure the people
are being contacted and the proper form is being completely filled out. We are lucky to have her there.

P'sOS who ran Ohio get the boot. Knowing Blackwell got his arrogant criminal ass beaten felt almost as sweet as casting my vote for Bob Casey.

13. It's not to end early voting...
It's to end early voting right after registration.

There is a five day window where registration can still go on when early voting starts.

So, someone could go to the Board of Elections, register at one window and then go right to another window to pick up an early voting ballot.

Funny, I believe this was instituted while the GOP owned Ohio, back in the Ken Blackwell - Bob Taft days.

They are not suing to stop early voting per say, just to close that window.

14. I don't follow how that form of early voting would be a disadvantage for
Republican voters, or maybe rather, how keeping the five day window open would hurt them.

16. I think it is just something to cast doubt on the election, so that people
who are leaning republican will be rilled up to get to the polls...

They are claiming that voter fraud could be put because the people who just registered are not vetted through the system. That's my take on it, at least...

21. My spidey sense went up when John Fund on Realtime w Bill Maher
last night predicted that this would be another messy election full of lawsuits and recounts. I think it was PR foreshadowing, that they'll be opposing the results, probably Ohio, probably a couple others. If this lawsuit is just to muddy the waters I wonder what they're doing in states like PA, NM, CO and MI.

22. They really only need to cloud the issue in a few places...
So that even if Obama wins, which I believe he will, they will use that doubt to behave just like they did in '93 when Clinton took office...

29. Good Catch Sushi
I hope the courts throw this out while laughing in McPalin's face. The next thing we need to make sure doesn't happen is ballots disappearing or those touch screen voting machines being tampered with.

It really makes me wish I was inside the US for election day so I could video tape a polling place.
