I had bookmarked this on my browser a few weeks ago. Read the Palin link first . . . then get fired up to for Obama/Biden! :-) I discovered Mother Jone's Magazine in 1995 . . . always a refreshing read.

Barack Obama's pick for his running mate Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Delaware) chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and has a more than three decade track record in the Senate on foreign policy and national security issues. I asked a former Senate Foreign Relations committee staff member of his about Biden's worldview and foreign policy sensibilities. "Liberal interventionist," says the former Biden staffer, who asked to speak on background, comfortable with the use of American miliary power, in some contrast perhaps to Obama's inner circle of foreign policy advisors. Here's more of the former staffer's response.

My talking points on the Foreign Relations approach of the next VP of the US:

1. Liberal Interventionist
2. Understands the concept of Military Force - but also understands the Soft Force of Diplomacy
3. Believes America is a "force for good in the world"
4. Championed the US sticking to the to the 1972 antiballistic missile treaty with Russia - That President Reagan just wanted to piss on.
5. During the Balkans War - clearly saw the Genocide in action and pushed for American Intervention.
6. As we saw in the Balkans War - believes the US should work with other countries to find peaceable solutions.
7. Advocated the creation of three states in Iraq: Sunni, Shiite, Kurdish w/a limited power central government. He's moved closer towards Obama on this for the past couple of years - in terms of Iraq putting on their big girls panties and Governing themselves.

Yeah - Palin is terrifying . . . but that's why I'm thrilled Joe is on our side.
