Liz Dole - "No right to freedom from religion."
In her speech at the RNC she said we Americans have the right of freedom of religion not freedom FROM religion.

Good grief.

11. What?
In this country, you definately have freedom from religion. Doesn't she know anything about history? Jefferson felt that his statute for religious freedom was so important he had it listed on his tombstone as one of his major achievements (the others being author of the Declaration of Independence and Father of the University of Virigina).

21. Always one of my favorite quotes
"Pedant Mode" On!

Actually, it's "Mankind will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest." - Denis Diderot

"Pedant Mode" Off!

These days, though, I think it's, until the last Republican is strangled with the entrails of the last fat, lazy, corrupt, self-impressed so-called journalist.

25. Tell it to the Freedom From Religion Foundation
http://ffrf.org/index.php

Since 1978, the nonprofit Freedom From Religion Foundation has been working to

* keep state and church separate
* educate the public about the views of nontheists.

Members include freethinkers from all 50 states, Canada, and other countries. The Foundation monitors abuses of the separation of state and church, taking lawsuits and officially complaining about such abuses.

26. religious right psychobabble
My friend in Florida was copied on this email sent to a bunch of her religious right family members. Is sounds like it was sent out straight from RNC headquarters. Is it even worth responding to this sort of drivel? (Sorry for the weird spacing)...

(This was asked to a local Pastor and I thought he answered very well. Maybe you will agree and pass this on to someone you know).

Should a Christian vote Democratic or Republican?

    Dear Pastor:

I'm one of those who are still undecided about our presidential election in November.  My family has always voted Democrat because we thought they did more for the working family than the Republican Party.  I think

President Bush is doing a good job with the war on terror, but Senator Kerry says he can do a better job.  I am very concerned about the economy and  the future of the Social Security.  Does the Bible give any direction that might help a Christian vote wisely?

WHAT A QUESTION FOR ALL CHRISTIANS TO DEAL WITH AND ANSWER.

There are two issues that separate the two parties and they are very,

very important to a God fearing person.

  1. Legalized abortion.

  2. Legal sanction on homosexual activity.

God warns in the 18th. Chapter of Leviticus that such sins defile a

nation and the land it occupies.  He promises that such sin will cause the

land

to vomit out its inhabitants.  Our country is facing the time of acceptance

and legal status to homosexual marriages.

If we can do this and survive, then God Almighty is a lair, the Bible is

a fable and our faith is a sham.  One party is loudly in favor of both

abortion and homosexual approval and the other party is against both

  issues.

As a Christian, I can NEVER vote for those who promote what God condemns.

There's NO choice when it comes to approving what the Lord forbids.  It's

not the economy or the war or Social Security; it's what is right as the

Bible so says.  Vote but vote right.  God will be watching as you do.

28. Leviticus 18:22 is one of the many abominations -why is it ahead of eatin
pork?

18:22 "Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with women kind it is an abomination."

Indeed there is some who read the original and see a no no to forced sex - only.

Interesting Pastor.

46. As an atheist I was appalled
when I heard that. I only heard* the "...freedom of religion, not freedom from religion..." part but did she precede it with something like "...the Constitution guarantees..." or something along those lines? Did anyone catch what preceded that part?

* OK,I have to admit that I haven't actually been "listening" to the crapola from the RNC. I mute the TV, turn on closed captioning, and put some tunes on the stereo. Even with that, I find it necessary to change channels because I can only take so much. Personally, McCain disgusted me with his lies last night so I didn't even bother to check out what Guiliani was saying because I was beyond fed up by then.

And yes, I'm an atheist but I fully respect people's right to practice their chosen religion. I have no problem with that whatsoever. The very laws that protect their freedom TO worship are the same ones that protect my freedom FROM worship. Unless of course you go by Elizabeth Dole's interpretation in which case I would be forced to choose some sort of religion. Canada is looking better and better every day.

40. its a set-up remark and a pretty good one
if one counters that "no" religion (say atheism or agnosticism) falls under the penumbra of a perspective that demands a right to the freedom to practice the absence of religion, unencumbered by government interference, that perspective also can not be promoted in government, just as other religious perspectives can not be promoted.
