Should Obama do Perot-style TV info broadcast?
In 1992 Ross Perot garnered much attention and many votes with, if memory serves me, one or two 30-minute broadcasts where he went into depth on the problems facing the country and his solutions.
He had his charts and a pretty simple message.

Perot was especially effective in explaining the economic issues stemming from the deficit and trade policies.

Obama has to fill voter's head with simple equations that explain why he should be elected. Short, simple and folksy.

Perhaps he does an hour with Q&A. Could he afford it? Would people watch? Would it be a good idea?

6. a complete multimedia presentation.
No need for charts on easels (that's so 1992!) .... lets go full video and let Barack respond directly to clips from McCain & FoxNews lies.

Why aren't all of Obama's policy speechs accompanied with bullet points on large video screen? I'm not talking powerpoint, I'm talking clear graphics like his website.

3. Interesting idea. I also like the idea of Obama running some ads
with him just looking at the camera and talking directly to us. Very personal, very down to earth, like a friend.

5. I mentioned something like this in an earlier thread. It's a great idea.
I'm thinking a big prime-time informercial type buy.

8. No...Obama is not a third party trying to capture
voters in a two party system.

9. Only if he can get Gore's graphics team to provide the visuals
That would rock.

10. I don't think it would work.
He should simply make a concise ad talking directly to the people via the camera, touching with some detail on his specific plans. This would refute the claim that he is vague. Charts or "presentations" would only serve to diminish the effect, and make it look like an infomercial, which would be more fodder for ridicule from the other side. I could be wrong, though. Who knows? It could work like a charm.

12. Hell yes he should.

And this should be the central visual:

Get any voter in the lower 80% of income brackets to spend 5 minutes truly absorbing and understanding that chart and just see how many vote McCain then. Obama's plan is simultaneously more directly beneficial to more individual citizens AND far more responsible than McCain's. The election should be no contest on this issue alone if we could just get people grasping this.

An hour is way too long though. It would cost a fortune and people would get bored and turn away. If he could figure out a way to get a several minute explanation of this broadcast with as wide an audience as possible though that would help immensely.

13. Not a bad idea, but costly
a half hour of TV time - I can't even imagine how expensive that is.

15. I swore I saw one some time ago.
Probably about a couple of months ago but I think Obama's campaign has put together an informercial. He didn't do it himself for a full 30 minutes; it was snippets of speeches and someone voicing over captions stating his positions.

Mark.
