Armageddon in our future? 'Yes, I think I will see Jesus come back to earth in my lifetime.'
Should anyone who honestly believes this, like Palin, be in a position to help bring it about?

I would like to see this getting more traction.

Think about it. She could believe she is just doing God's will and wipe out half the globe.

I don't think most mainstream Christians would go along with such extremist views.

So, is this something to talk about in the campaign or would it be seen as an attack on religion.

1. Did she say this? If so, how arrogant and stupid because
for Christians no one knows the time or place when and where this will happen. It sounds like she DOES want to start her own Armageddon. What a freak!

7. Yep... According To This:
<snip>

Soon after the book controversy, Bess found himself again at odds with Palin and her fellow evangelicals. In 1996, evangelical churches mounted a vigorous campaign to take over the local hospital's community board and ban abortion from the valley. When they succeeded, Bess and Dr. Susan Lemagie, a Palmer OB-GYN, fought back, filing suit on behalf of a local woman who had been forced to travel to Seattle for an abortion. The case was finally decided by the Alaska Supreme Court, which ruled that the hospital must provide valley women with the abortion option.

At one point during the hospital battle, passions ran so hot that local antiabortion activists organized a boisterous picket line outside Dr. Lemagie's office, in an unassuming professional building across from Palmer's Little League field. According to Bess and another community activist, among the protesters trying to disrupt the physician's practice that day was Sarah Palin.

Another valley activist, Philip Munger, says that Palin also helped push the evangelical drive to take over the Mat-Su Borough school board. "She wanted to get people who believed in creationism on the board," said Munger, a music composer and teacher. "I bumped into her once after my band played at a graduation ceremony at the Assembly of God. I said, 'Sarah, how can you believe in creationism -- your father's a science teacher.' And she said, 'We don't have to agree on everything.'

"I pushed her on the earth's creation, whether it was really less than 7,000 years old and whether dinosaurs and humans walked the earth at the same time. And she said yes, she'd seen images somewhere of dinosaur fossils with human footprints in them."

Munger also asked Palin if she truly believed in the End of Days, the doomsday scenario when the Messiah will return. "She looked in my eyes and said, 'Yes, I think I will see Jesus come back to earth in my lifetime.'"

2. Has she publicly stated this as her belief?
The American people would have every right to know whether or not she believes this dangerous fairy tale as it would most definitely have an influence on her policies. To ask her that question would not be an invasion of her personal beliefs in that case.

4. How narcissistic!
Why do people consider themselves so special that their god would deem them so important that after a 2000 year absence he would return in their lifetime? It's one thing for those that so believe to be "prepared". It's quite another to assume it. Yet another, and downright insane, to try to hasten it.

The point is that all of these fantasy worlders believe that they themselves are living in the end times. Not one of them has been right.

9. It would be setting a ball on a tee, and telling her to swing for the fences.
Maybe she'd whiff, but more likely she'd turn the argument into an attack on religion, and then turn the question on Obama, asking if he believes in Armageddon. Then he's in a trap. He can't refuse to answer the question, because his side raised it. He can't say no, because that turns into claims that he's not Christian, and the whole debate devolves into who is the strongest Christian. He can't say yes because he'll look looney to half his supporters, and he'll undermine any criticism of Palin for believing it. The question is a good one, but the answers kill our candidate.

Seriously, I can't think of a single presidential election we've ever won by dwelling on personal attacks and trivial details. The other side does it all the time, but when we win, we win by attacking their economic and foreign policy goals head on. Gore, Clinton, Carter, LBJ, JFK...

11. If the actions of humankind would bring about the return of Jesus Christ
Don't you think He might have shown up right about the time a psychopath was killing 6 million of His relatives?? Or maybe when those claiming to be His church were torturing and killing those who failed to convert to "Christianity".

Jesus Himself said that even He didn't know the date of His comeback tour, and that it was all on His Dad's timetable, which no human being has access to.

So any person or group (like the Dominionists) who says they're going to "help" Jesus come back (or establish His kingdom on Earth) that's usually a pretty good indication that they're full of shit.

14. I would think this second guessing of God and his Son...
Would piss said Deity off royally.

I've always thought that the scriptures telling of "The Second Coming" were very clear... no man knows the day or hour... meaning we should carry on with business as usual... ever ready but taking no actions. And even more important to ponder, God chose NOT to force "his children" to follow his laws. There would be no point in casting them out of heaven and giving them free will if he wanted us forced to follow his law. How dare anyone try to force those laws upon us! They are clearly holding themselves above the law and the intentions of God!!!

13. I don't care what my leaders believe.
They can believe in Odin, the Valkyries and Ragnarok for all I care. What I want is that they don't bring those beliefs into public life with them. I want them to surround themselves with advisors who are picked for their expertise in their fields not their religious beliefs. The fact that McCain picked this woman, regardless of her religious beliefs, who has no education nor background of any kind to step into the shoes of the President should he be unable to discharge his duties is a dire affront to the people of the United States of America. The fact that she chooses to speak about this in a campaign for a public election is insulting to us.

Still waiting on McCrap and the Booshes to do that. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go to heaven; so they should be pretty nervous and trying to unload that wealth.

21. What she really means is she "wants" Jesus to come back in her lifetime.
I believe there is such a thing as a self-fulling prophecy, if you believe something bad enough you can create it.

I also believe this is why Palin had no compulsions about speaking of going to war with Russia over Georgia without "blinking".

In conclusion I believe she has all the judgment, integrity, reasoning ability, belief in hiring people based on their qualifications, thirst for knowledge and curiosity of the current administration in addition to the supreme confidence of knowing World War III will only hasten Jesus's return.

In short if you liked Bush's style of governing, I believe you will love Palin should she become President.

Hopefully those nasty wounds in His hands, feet, and side have healed by now, since that was almost 2000 years ago...

Matthew 24
Signs of the End of the Age

Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. "Do you see all these things?" he asked. "I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down."

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"

Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ', and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

"Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

"So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation,'spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let no one on the roof of his house go down to take anything out of the house. Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. See, I have told you ahead of time.

"So if anyone tells you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here he is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.

"Immediately after the distress of those days
" 'the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'

"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

"Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

The Day and Hour Unknown
"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.

"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

"Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time,' and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The fig tree reference is considered by most fundies as a parable for the nation of Israel. And they would tell you that the "prophetic countdown" to JC's return began in May of 1948 when Israel became a nation once again, though some say the actual coundown didn't begin until 1967, when the Jews regained at least partial control of Jerusalem. Either way, the interpretation here is that the Generation who saw Israel reborn would be the generation who saw the return of Christ. If you're counting from 1948, that generation's now 60 or older. And even those of us who were around for the 6 day war in 1967 (I was still in diapers then myself) aren't exactly kids either.

So if JC is coming back, according to that prophecy, then He is kinda running late.
