20 Million would Lose Employer Based Health Insurance McCain-Study Tuesday
McCain’s Radical Agenda By BOB HERBERT

Talk about a shock to the system. Has anyone bothered to notice the radical changes that John McCain and Sarah Palin are planning for the nation’s health insurance system?

These are changes that will set in motion nothing less than the dismantling of the employer-based coverage that protects most American families.

A study coming out Tuesday from scholars at Columbia, Harvard, Purdue and Michigan projects that 20 million Americans who have employment-based health insurance would lose it under the McCain plan.

There is nothing secret about Senator McCain’s far-reaching proposals, but they haven’t gotten much attention because the chatter in this campaign has mostly been about nonsense — lipstick, celebrities and “Drill, baby, drill!”

For starters, the McCain health plan would treat employer-paid health benefits as income that employees would have to pay taxes on.

Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 11:13 PM by RamboLiberal
I know this but the majority of Americans don't. Didn't I say I've been waiting for him to drop this bunkerbuster on the American voter?

I haven't seen this covered by any of the MSM excerpts of Obama rallies.

Advertising! Get some good TV and Radio ads out Obama campaign or a 527!

3. But the press hasn't talked about it......
and they haven't been televising much of what Obama says, if it doesn't have something to do with Lipstick.

That's why it is dangerous when the Media and the McCain campaign suceeds at distracting us.

14. It's a loser for all Americans........
Not a winner.

What is a winner is that we back the candidate that has the answers on how to get us out of this miserable mess.

8. I was pointing this out earlier. Put simply, the Republican Party
would have everyone just buy their own insurance. The problem is that those that would need it the most could afford it the least.

12. I would think it would be more than that - doesn't it take away the tax credit for companies
who offer insurance?

21. No..
It would still be an expense to the company, like salaries are. If it stopped being a tax impacting expense, they'd be taxing both the employer and the employee effectively (when they shouldn't be thinking of taxing either, in this case.)

19. Surely this could be a "game-changer" IF your avg. voter knew and
understood about this.

Getting to that point is the challenge, of course.

20. We need to just come out and add up these "tax credits"
all the way around and put them in perspective.

A lot of us aren't making the kind of money to allow us to pay 5, 10, 15, and 20k in taxes to get these credits they are always pitching for schools, healthcare, and whatever else they can snooker someone into buying into and if we did we wouldn't have the 12+K to pay insurance or 20k a year to put each child in private schools.

The plan is as always...suck it America, if you can find a job you can pay Thurston Howell the third's tuition bill for him.
