McCain's confusing bank-deposit talk

http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/09/mccains_confusing_bankdeposit.html

Among the comments Sen. John McCain has been making in response to the Wall Street carnage has been a curious line that leaves the impression that Americans with plain-vanilla bank deposits are at risk.

On CBS's "Early Show" this morning, McCain said: "We need to make sure that every person whose bank deposit--has made a bank--a deposit in a bank is insured."

On ABC's "Good Morning America" this morning, McCain told Chis Cuomo: "...And we're going to fix -- make sure that every American who has a deposit in the bank that they are -- that they're deposit-insured."

McCain may be leaving the impression with some voters that their deposits in commercial banks aren't insured.

But bank deposits are insured, of course. An individual saver can have up to $100,000 in a single institution and it's insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. This was one of the most important New Deal initiatives. The savings of those with money in commercial banks aren't at risk.

McCain obviously knows all this. So what exactly is the Republican presidential nominee talking about?

2. It's probably been awhile since McCain knew anyone with less than $100,000 in the bank.
Understandable for someone that owns 7 houses. :eyes:

3. Maybe he's worried about those with more than $100,000 in single accounts
Since they are the most important people to the Republicans, after all.

6. McInsane is now taking credit for FDR's policy.
The FDIC started in 1934. I guess McInsane thinks he started it.

Aren't bushies anti-FDR? I seem to recall a big idiot by the name of Limpballs saying, "Roosevelt is dead. His policies may live on but we are in the process of doing something about that."

Thank God that the ruinous Republicons didn't do away with the FDIC. Just imagine how bad it would be right now if they had gotten their way and done away with ALL FDR era regulations and policy.

The FDIC is another one of those crazy, useless LIBERAL ideas.

8. McCain isn't going to be dealing with any stupid financial, economic matters.

As John McCain has told us in his own words, he will be leading us into other wars. His lobbyist buddies will take care of the domestic issues, just like they did under Bush.

9. He's scared. The FDIC only has $50B to cover $1trillion in deposits, and the sky is falling in the
banking industry as AIG approaches bankruptcy.

10. He doesn't know anyone with less than $100K in the bank.
Cindy and his buddies are looking for some good old-fashioned socialist protection now that their own assets are in danger.
