Well, Everyone....Florida is in for it I'm Afraid......
The current scenario with Hurricane Frances is shaping up into a South Florida hit, (Miami Metro - Highly Possible), a south-west coast (Naples-Fort Myers - "Poor Souls") exit into the Gulf of Mexico and a possible second landing after re-generation over the Gulf into the Florida Panhandle. I can't believe I'm even typing this now...but if it comes true and it just might, Florida will never be the same.

As far as effecting the election....Low Voter Turnout would be my guess, and state-wide.

The intensity of this storm, is something normally only seen in Pacific Super-Typhoons.

God Help Us.

1. Good luck guy.
Hope you guys make it through ok. Don't let Bush exploit it for his campaign, though, because you know he will try!

2. I haven't heard the update...
Hang in there, it is still possible that it might change course or get downgraded. You know hurricanes are more than finicky half of the time...I am not the best with prayers, but nevertheless, I'll keep Florida in them. I have relatives there as well...

3. God help you! What are you going to do?
I was in a major hurricane(Iniki) on Kauai in '92 so I feel a kindred spirit with others who have to go through this.

Naples and Ft Meyers were just hit with Charley! That would be cruel and unusual punishment to have to go through that again within a couple of months or even a year!

6. I told Guy on the radio last week..Don't laugh now I was serious
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 12:25 AM by vetwife
Right after Marie 333 called in..There was a stupid so called Christian woman who actually dissed Marie and said the war was right after Marie's heart was breaking. I mean this ass was the caller right after MArie. Well...I got through and here this woman was ranting that she was a good christian woman and Bush was a good Christian man and bombing Iraq was right. I was furious and so was Guy and the other listeners. Guy went off on her.BAD ! I called in and said, Hey Guy, wasn't that Dee woman from down there where you are? He said Yeah Amanda. I said, Well that christian woman needs to read her bible a little more. Isn't that area mostly republican and right winged. and he said, you know it. I said and its the same Bible Old George uses .."Well for all that bombing that is so right" God says that he will have his way in a whirlwind. Didn't you all just have a category 4 Whirlwind?" I thought he would bust a gut laughing and said, Yep we sure did. I said, and had no idea about this storm...She better pray God doesn't pour more whirlwinds her way because of their overwhelming belief in the War.

Something for those so called christians to think about while not only dissing good people but using God as a weapon..According to the Bible he has his own weapon for such actions of evil ! Zidzi , I think you heard me....LOL ! I feel for the innocent but maybe God is trying to tell that bunch down there the so called Right..They are WRONG!

That woman who got on.. dee.. had to be the most insenitive human I've heard Ever.

I'm glad you got on after that and help diffuse the situation after Guy had already Blown up!

4. Well formed hurricane.
Looks pretty bad, but it could change course.

NOAA doesn't think so, though.

I would be thinking safe place, you can always (hope to) replace the stuff.

Good luck!

8. NOAA's current projected track has it hitting Florida Saturday.
Around Melbourne, south of Cape Canaveral and then tracking inland.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ftp/graphics/AT06/refresh/AL0604W5+GIF/010253W5.gif

But Charley hit much further south than predicted, so I will be watching this closely... They update every morning. I have a sailboat in Ft. Lauderdale that I may have to move.

9. Please Head for the Hills
Still have flashbacks from Andrew. Get out if there is even a chance. It's not worth it to stay. The experience fools with your psyche. My home is on the barrier islands east of Melbourne and I'm in the mountains at this time. It can just head north and out to sea. This looks like a big one. Stay safe.

17. You get around!
We were lucky when we went through Iniki on Sept,11,1992..nobody was killed ..just the whole Island was wiped out and it took 5 years to rebuild.

So I don't have any flashbacks. It must have been very traumatic for you?

How do you like your new home?

19. Hiding from Heat and Hurricanes
It takes a long time for a community to recover from a hurricane. I was an hour north of Homestead during Andrew and the sounds of the wind......oh the sounds of the wind. I love the mountains in the summer. Thanks for asking.

10. Godspeed
I've been in hurricanes in Nawlins and know the dealio. LOTS of rain, LOTS of water, LOTS of wind...

The story is about how many National Guard folks are in Iraq and not doing what they were trained to do.

Lots of Duct tape and plastic wrap. And a few cases of beer...

13. Well that's helpful..... (sort of)
Looks like close to 100% probability of hitting Florida.
Looks like the best case would be for it to hook north, expend energy and hit the north coast as a lesser storm.

14. San Juan Radar has the storm on a current westerly track...
NOGAPS Model now shows a South Florida hit and a second hit on the Florida Panhandle.

If this continues for the next few morning hours that track will be shifted more west and south. Anything north of central Florida will probably be discounted by 8AM or 11AM updates tomorrow. There was bad data imported into the GFDL model I believe, and that model is the only one still holding the sharp northward turn.

It's shaping up to be the worst case scenario for the state as a whole.

The largest evacuation in modern Florida history will have to begin tomorrow if lives are to be spared.

Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 03:21 AM by plastic_turkeys
During hurrican Charlie I posted a picture of a lady who was not let into the shelter during Charley because she had a dog ....

The shelters do not take animals. If you have pets PLEASE look for alternate shelter inland (friends, hotel, etc.) if it looks like she's heading your way. I am hoping for the best for all!

24. Get out now or as soon as you possibly can.
It may get crazy the next day or so. I went through Andrew as well as several lesser hurricanes and it is not a fun experience.

Find a friend far inland and head there now.

Not anymore.

Thanks for the info. I thought it was bad but manageable, but I didn't know it was that bad. God indeed help you.

Very unlikely a hurricane will hit Ohio...

But seriously, I will pray for the safety of people in the storm's path. At least there is some warning this time. Get somewhere safe.
