Hillary Clinton cancels appearance at New York rally
It turns out the organizers did not tell Hillary that Sarah Palin was also going to speak there.

WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has canceled an appearance at a New York rally next week after organizers blindsided her by inviting Republican vice presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, aides to the senator said Tuesday.

Several American Jewish groups plan a major rally outside the United Nations on Sept. 22 to protest against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Organizers said Tuesday that both Clinton, who nearly won the Democratic nomination for president, and Palin, Republican candidate John McCain's running mate, are expected to attend.

Their collective loins are quivering in anticipation of a Bibi Netanyahu return to power. These assholes were too extreme even for Ariel Sharon.

3. Why should Hillary cancel? I'd think that would be all the more reason for her to appear.
She's about a thousand times more intelligent than Palin and would put her to shame.

Anyone get the reasoning behind this?

10. Because the other side would not cancel?
The McCain camp would love the publicity and having Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton be in one rally.

44. I agree!
When I heard that they were both going to be at the same event...I thought, NOT GOOD!

We don't need Hillary giving Palin credibility! The media could make it seem as if they were side-by-side which may encourage more dimwitted women to vote McCain.

Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 08:39 AM by leveymg
It would've been madness for Hillary to appear at the same event. Would only help to elevate Palin and boost the Repub ticket.

43. You missed what really matters. Clinton ACCEPTED the invite to a prowar with Iran rally
and she did so because she BELIEVES in their message.

So does Palin. Why the fuck aren't Democrats concerned that BOTH Clinton and palin support this group enough to accept appearing at their rally?

Those Dems looking at this like it's about Palin and Clinton's rivalry are being OBTUSE.

50. But, my friend, Hillary "we will obliterate Iran" Clinton's views are well known
Her first inclination -- and that of some in her circle -- was probably to make a encore appearance at the UN. Her spectacle last time Ahmadinejad appeared was wildly popular with part of her base.

Her position hasn't changed. What I find interesting is the attempt by Palin to clone and sponge off her. Most likely, the Repugs will now claim that HRC is weak on Iran, disrespected Palin by refusing to appear with her, etc., ad nauseum.

28. Her cancellation is for the benefit of the campaign
If Hillary appears on the same stage with Palin that becomes the biggest story of the week. Total distraction. Makes Palin look more legit.

If there was no campaign going on I doubt Hillary would care whether the obscure Governor of Alaska was speaking.

Clinton and Palin share a common belief with the groups who asked them to appear.

14. I don't blame Hillary. I blame the Jewish groups for pulling this stunt.
They should have known better. Maybe they were too greedy for the publicity since Palin is still the shiny new object that the ADHD media is currently in love with but they shouldn't have disrespected Hillary like that. In inviting Palin to this event, it's the same implied insult that just because they both have female genitalia, they share the same weight on issues. So yeah, I totally support Hillary's refusal in going here.

It is kinda ridiculous that she has to blow off a NY event though but it's obvious that she's taking the high road here.

49. Would you even have ACCEPTED to appear at a rally that wants war with Iran? That point seems to be
lost on many DUers. Clinton ACCEPTED the invite to speak before this antiIran group - to speak on views she SHARES with this group and with Palin.

22. Hillary legitimizes Palin if Hillary appears at the same rally...
I'm a musician.
If you are the headliner for the show...and then they tell you they've booked someone else to be with you when it was not part of the original agreement...
well, they can go screw themselves if they want that second person so bad.

Also, it seems sneaky to not tell Clinton that Palin would be there...that's just BAD MANNERS.
and a bad way to run an event, and probably bad politics.

Plus, if Hillary cancels, it sort of snubs Palin... he he.

I love Hillary. I hope people don't make this into her fault.
Too bad Amy Poehler had to be the one with that skit the other night to point out how people are "suddenly" so concerned about sexism regarding Palin.

This same group legitimatized Palin by offering a speaking slot to her. They all share common cause, and THAT part seems to not be of alarm to posters.
