What the heck is up with NPR: everytime I get in my car I hear RW talking points...
Is it just a coincidence or did something happen because I don't remember NPR being part of the GOP echo machine.

4. its changed over
the past decade..more right leaning (they would claim "balanced") but I have to say the absolute best thing I heard today was on NPR this morning an hour long interview with Larry Tribe talking about his new book on the Constitution. He spent a big chunk of time talking about how brilliant, smart and thoughtful a student Barack was in his Constituion law class and how much he learned and has learned from him...etc....

5. I used to be a major NPR fan but have been disappointed the last few years
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 01:40 PM by JoeIsOneOfUs
I think they still have some great field reporters and topic reporters. (war zone reporters, science reporters, etc.) I love many of the non-news programs too.

Their news programs are a mixed bag. I really dislike their main hosts, commentators, and most political reporters. Some of the better news programs I can get when I visit family in Boston but can't get elsewhere.

When they got rid of Bob Edwards, and when Juan Williams became prominent, it was a sign of bad things to come.

6. NPR did a hatchet job on Obama this morning...
First, it ran an McCain/Palin attack ad in its entirety! I thought, "Hmmm, one playthrough costing Mac nothing." The ad mentioned how Obama called Palin a liar and how disrespectful that was.

Then it ran clips of both camps commenting on perceived sexism, and then ran a "white women rush to support Palin" story although not offering any statistics to back that up.

I thought, "Okay, NPR, now run an Obama attack ad in its entirety, and comment on Palin's lies, i.e...

1.) Fiscal conservative who pocketed the money after bridge to nowhere was nixed.
2.) Fiscal conservative who charged Alaska a per diem allowance while living at home.

as well as...
3.) Used state office to intimidate ex-brother-in-law.
4.) Attempted to ban books in the town's library.
5.) Once blocked access to family-planning clinics.
6.) Active in Alaska independence movement.

I'm sure NPR will be following up with this...

8. They are so scared of being tarred as "liberal"
that they overcompensate. They are especially vulnerable because they take money from the government.

I still listen, mainly because it's the only broadcast news outlet I know of that isn't dumbed down to the 3rd grade level.

But no, they are "liberal" like the New York Times is "liberal": Pro business, pro establishment, socially moderate with a few liberal voices, but basically a tool of the status quo.

10. NPR has become unlistenable.
It hasn't been "liberal" since the '90's.

14. i cancelled my subscription
after donating for over 10 years. if they want to spew RW talking points, let them get their money from RWs instead. in their response to me, the membership person offered that the local stations are letting "national" NPR know why people are no longer donating. not that that will change anything.
