Politico Staff: Obama wins the day (fifth straight!)

Final score: Obama wins the day
By Politico Staff

It seems almost too obvious to say at this point, but Obama-Biden has seized on the events of the last few days with an intensity that would?ve been hard to imagine just a week ago. Both Democratic candidates kept pounding away at McCain today, with Biden, in Ohio, accusing the Republican of being AWOL on the economy, and Obama hammering on the charge that lobbyists are ?running campaign? during a trip to Nevada. And to top it off, the day closed with a New York Times poll giving Obama a 5-point lead nationally.

McCain had a slightly better day today than on Monday or Tuesday. On a trip to Michigan, he sounded a stern note in response to the AIG bailout. And all early indications suggest Sarah Palin had a predictably smooth time in her interview with Sean Hannity.

Still, a spate of state-level polling shows Obama bouncing back in places like Ohio and Florida, where his numbers suffered last week. If this trend continues, McCain may head into the weekend deprived of his post-convention momentum.

And to top off his half-week from hell: He got jeered by the "fundamentals of the economy" at an auto plant in Michigan today.

1. WHAT "post-convention momentum"...?
I don't want to have to disagree with Politico, but I think that went south last weekend.
