Get it straight people -- It's going to be a landslide!
Obama is going to win by a monumental margin.

It is time for us humble foot soldiers to stop peeking in terror at the latest polls and lay down our fights with our republican friends, family and acquaintances and begin to act like the gracious winners that our leaders would want us to be.

It is not a threat to us if our mothers, brothers, friends, co-workers, etc. are not going to vote for Obama. Obama is going to win with or without those particular single votes. We can smile understandingly (recall that we were, at least once or twice, fervent backers of candidates who lost -- and we KNEW we were right then too!) and calmly and confidently explain why we disagree with our friends without having to make them wrong. "As I understand it . . . ." "I could be wrong, but in my opinion . . . ." "I'm not sure . . . ." etc.

At the end we can say, I love you (respect you, etc.) even though I don't understand or agree with your politics. I just want you to know that it's never too late to join our campaign to make our America the kind of America we can all be proud of. Leave it light and low-key like that.

Above all, do not resist, argue or get angry. These people are in the grips of a horrible and ravenous ego that can only maintain itself by finding someone to oppose. The more you resist their view (by calling them selfish, ignorant, racist, red-neck, etc.) the more that ego will cling to that which you oppose.

1. If it is a landslide..
I'm going to print the resulting electoral map, frame it, and hang it in my home office. And every once in a while, I'll look over at it and smile. :)

I live in OC and have only seen one McCain bumper sticker. I'm also seeing more Obama signs popping up every day. One bumper sticker said "Republicans for Obama". For OC, this is huge.

We have to win this. But I feel sorry for Obama, for his will be a thankless job. They will spend 8 years attacking everything he does saving their asses, and likely so will we because he won't go 100% on each of our pet projects. And at the end, he will have helped, but our nation will still have fundamental flaws, and at least half the people will hate his guts.

33. Yes, and Kerry actually had the numbers, but Blackwell delivered Ohio.
We still need to be vigilant and keep on these voter disenfranchisement ploys.

AND if they steal the election again we need to march on DC and our state capitals in the millions and demand a full recount and DU will have the scoop on which districts got shafted and how.

We will protest so loudly and so long that the Washington Monument will crumble into dust by the constant vibration of our voices united as one.

It STILL will only happen if we make it happen.

15. History says you're wrong, landslides are visible by now, and it's basically a tie right now
If you look back at all the landslides (I forget if 5 or 10 percent of the vote was defined as one in the article) since like WW2, a landslide win was clearly visible at this point in the game in all but one of those elections (the exception was Ronald Reagan's first presidential victory).

16. If we had an honest media
That was telling the truth about how skewed the polls are because of a handful of red states, you'd start to see the landslide by now. The only reason you don't is because the media is afraid the Republicans will call them biased. Do you realize that they have to practically stuff Obama in a closet in order for McCain to get even this close? If they were giving Obama and Biden the kind of air time they've given Palin, they would be running away with it.

about 8-10%. I don't know if that's considered a landslide but it's much more that most people predict. I just don't believe the polls. The media/pollsters need a story. Obama leading the whole way and winning isn't an interesting story. Hey, I could be wrong but I just see how people can vote for McCain.

We need it to be a landslide to send a message to the Republicans to STFU.

Telling anyone that it will be a landslide just causes others to slack off and not do everything they need to do to win.

24. I disagree
Not everyone, or actually not anyone, performs better by being whipped into shape by fear.

The way to win is to adopt the air and attitude of a winner -- gracious confidence.

Who wants to join a movement that is completely terrorized and stressed at all times? That is so insecure that it can't tolerate a chance encounter with someone who disagrees?

Obama is going to win, and win big.

Whether you trust me or not.

when they think they have it won.

It happens in many campaigns and many football games.

If there is a good campaign manager that keeps everyone goal-minded then there is less chance of it happening. And you can't trust what the media says is happening. They lie, lie and lie.

It ain't over, till it's over. It's o.k. to be nice to people, but the last election I argued with someone to tell them to think about what they really needed for the future of the country, not what someone else has just spit out at them.

This person was a lifelong Republican, and she told me the day of the election she voted for our guys.

The moral of the story: No -- we did not win that day. Just imagine, though, if each of us who are democrats change just one mind.

Then --------------- we win by that landslide.

you're right - when talking to people that you have a personal relationship with, you can't afford to make an enemy over politics.

If you can swing them, do so. If you can't, at least see if you can get them to stop hating him, or being afraid of him. We don't need another 4-8 years of half of the American people hating the president.

Worse still, if they hate him before he even gets into the Oval Office.

Trust me, having lived thru the pain of the Bush theft of the White House in 2000, and people popping chamgagne early in the day that Kerry got screwed out of it in 2004.

The ONLY time to talk about a landslide here on DU, is the day after the election. Not sooner.

We need to keep our heads down and our humility in tact -- then party like hell if it all goes our way in November.

57. Obama Should Win
But talk of a landslide imho, is far fetched...We Democrats have to go back to 1964 to point to a true pop vote and Electoral College landslide and that was when Lyndon Johnson was carrying the mantle of a martyred president...

In 1976 Jimmy Carter barely beat the hand picked vice president of the disgraced president in the wake of Watergate and in the midst of economic upheaval...If not for 30,000 votes in Ohio and Hawaii, Gerald Ford would have won the Electoral College...

Since 1860, the Democrats have only won a majority of the popular vote three times...
