Isn't email hack proof of abuse of office for Palin?
Is it legal to use private email accounts for official government business? Couldn't this be another huge problem for Palin?

3. Could be. But, regardless of her use of the account, the hackers are in bad need of jail time.
If we here at DU only focus on the possibility that Sarah Palin misused her email account, it will only create more sympathy for her. I worry that when the hackers are found, they might turn out to be Obama supporters, which will make the RW claim that Obama put them up to it. We must forcefully demand that the hackers be found and punished. Otherwise, the same thing can(and will) happen to one of our own, eventually. What will we say then, if we don't stand up against this invasion of privacy now?

5. These "hackers" are a bunch of kids from some anarchist website
They are equal opportunity offenders and quite honestly, I don't think they really give a damn about politics they just do this stuff to get a reaction out of people or to say they can do something like this - which really isn't saying much, since "hacking" a Yahoo! account is just a matter of guessing the password from what I can tell from having a Yahoo! account myself.

Yeah, they need jail time and there needs to be an example made of those responsible for this - but they did expose something that the media was paying no attention to until they pulled their stunt. Now that the McCain campaign is in damage control mode about this and making a big deal about "hackers", red flags are being raised all over the place about her use of these accounts to conduct official government business.

6. Good. If you are right, I am somewhat relieved.
A politician who uses email these days is a fool, anyway. Emails are frequently subpoenaed now. That is why President Clinton only sent two emails during his entire 8 years in office. He knew the hounds were after him.
I think it was Martin Lomasney, an old Boston pol, who once said, "Never write when you can speak. Never speak when you can nod. Never nod when you can wink."

7. nah
I'm sure that the Yahoo server logs will show that no brute-force attempt to crack the password took place. But I do agree that Karl Rove should be in jail.

8. The hacker should be praised and given a medal

for exposing Caribou Barbie's ethical violations. It has been suspected that she was skirting rules about convincing e-mails by not using the state's system, now we have firm proof.

9. I won't go that far, but it did bring light to a dead-in-the-water issue
It otherwise would have been forgotten and lost in the media mess and the cover up in Alaska.

I don't condone acts like this - I would have preferred for this information to come out legitmately. But the way McCain is raising a fuss about this leads me to believe that they are in damage control mode, worried that something will come out or this will be the proverbial first domino to fall since its got people talking about it.

11. Jail time for what?
What law did they break? I believe the answer is: none.

12. Perhaps I am wrong about this. I just assumed that hacking email accounts was illegal.
You could be right, though. If so, that would mean that it is not illegal for the government to monitor our email accounts without a warrant. But, what do I know? I'm not a lawyer.

13. Oh lord.
Some twelve year old kid looked up Sarah Palin's birth date and entered it into yahoo backwards.

Take him out for an ice cream cone and tell him he shouldn't do it again.

Problem solved.

4. It's Rove 2.0 - remember, he stayed off of government servers
She did the same thing. I just hope that now that it has been deleted, that Yahoo or someone, somewhere has it archived or backed up. Otherwise, we may never know the extent of the abuse of office that she has perpetrated.

10. Read the Yahoo terms of service - now, consider the "privilege" claim

Ummm... you mean to tell me that Yahoo! had every right to read her email, but she believes it was protected by an evidentiary privilege?

Run that past any attorney you know.
