Email Hack, Perhaps A Dirty Karl Rove Trick?
My first thought upon hearing about this yesterday was "Gee, that sounds like yet another Karl Rove trick." "I wonder if it isn't something the McCain campaign engineered."

What it reminds me of is when Karl Rove was running a campaign against the agriculture secretary in Texas. A microphone was supposedly found in a picture behind Rove's candidate, and the day before the election, just in time for it to go on the news, but not in time for any investigation, or response.

Later it was found that this microphone would've had to have batteries changed every four hours, and someone would've had to be on the inside to make the changes, and someone had to be within a hundred yards to receive the signal. But it gave the impression that someone was "spying" on their campaign, and the impression of 'dirty democratic tricks.'

Once it was too late, the FBI conclusion of most was that Karl Rove himself, or someone in their own campaign, planted, and then exposed the microphone as a trick, a trick that worked.

This smells much like a dirty trick by Rove. All they have is dirty tricks and lies, and hiding from a media that just wants to see what kind of VP he picked, a legitimate request for Americans. But certainly when someone has such a dirty, dishonorable reputation as Karl Rove does, for inisder tricks and manipulation, of doing anything to win, no matter how corrupt, everything like this that happens is suspect, and we must consider it very possible that it was a McCain trick.

How far has McCain fallen to try this sort of thing, or to even have Rove involved in his campaign. I don't think he can use his P.O.W. excuse for this one, but he'll so shameful, he'll probably try. This idea needs to circulate on other boards, as I think it is a very real possibility it was an inside McCain job, especially if nothing really poignant was found in this account.

3. What would the trap be?
All I see here is a moron Governor that was using a private email account to carry out some Government functions in violation of pretty much all laws. The fact that it was a Yahoo account which is easier to hack than my Mothers home computer does nothing except show how bloody stupid this woman is.

9. Seriously?
You can't see how hacking into an email, and posting a bunch of embarassing family stuff for everyone to see, might be viewed negatively by some people? Seriously?

I actually think most Obama people are smarter than that, and can at least think one move deep. If I do this, what are the possibilities? And one of the threads of possibility would be to make Obama's campaign look bad.

Certainly I agree that they should not have been using these accounts in this way, but it does reflect badly on whoever did it, and the perception is that Obama's campaign pulled it off, and supposedly, it's been traced to Chicago, which to me makes it even more likely a trick from the right-wing side.

Also, it takes attention away from the melt-down, which is killing McCain, who has advocated all of the terrible measures that has brought the market collapse, the bank closings, etc.

Perhaps the McCain campaign is just trying to stop their numbers from going into a free-fall. I doubt if it'll work, but seriously, this is how Rove operates, and don't think he's gone, to your own peril.

11. I'm a little surprised
that you seem to think all people who will end up voting for Democrats are people who post here at the DU.

Believe it, there are many independents, and just plain stupid people, who might just vote on such a lame basis, who are sitting on the fence right now.

You overestimate the general intelligence of the electorate.

12. Not really what I think at all, but AWESOME generalization!
I think what most people are thinking is "Why the hell does the governor of Alaska have an easily hacked email account?"

And why is 4chan claiming credit?

5. That was my first thought, too. Or, some idiot kids.
Inasmuch as there doesn't seem to have been anything of real interest in there, it was a dumb stunt, to put it kindly.
