Charles Christopher Cox has served as Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) since August 3, 2005. He had served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from January 25, 1989 to August 2, 2005, representing a district in southern California. He resigned from Congress to become chairman of the SEC.
