McCain: Raising taxes isn't patriotic, it's 'just plain dumb'
(NECN: Cedar Rapids, Iowa) - Republican presidential nominee John McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin took their campaign to Cedar Rapids, Iowa today.

"Senator Obama has never made the kind of tough reform we need today. His idea of reform is what his party leaders and Congress order him to do. We tried for bipartisan ethics reform and he walked away from it because his bosses didn't want real change. I know how to make the change that Senator Obama and this Congress is afraid of. I fought both parties to shake up Washington, and I'm going to do it as president," said McCain.

"Senator Obama isn't change, he's part of the problem in Washington," said McCain.

"Today, Senator Obama's running mate said that raising taxes is patriotic. Raising taxes in a tough economy isn't patriotic, it isn't a badge of honor, it's just plain dumb," said McCain.

"I will always put my country first," said McCain.

18. Not to mention Russia and Saudi Arabia
Deep in hock to our competitors and enemies is OK to McCain, but plans for Americans to fully fund our own government are bad. That is some sick and twisted logic.

2. How come you get a D rating from vets?
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 12:12 PM by Rambis
you vote against bill after bill for vets. You have deregulated us into the financial mess we are in now you clown!

Iran and Afghanistan Veterans of America has given John McCain a grade of D for his support of veterans: http://www.iava.org/full-ratings-list
Before you ask, Obama got a B+

Disabled Veterans of America gave McCain a 20% rating on support of veterans while giving Obama an 80% rating. Here's the scorecard:

3. His idea of reform is to let markets run wild with deregulation.
That's McCain's plan.

7. Funny how they use that same statement, isn't it?
When a Republican says that, they mean someone else's kid has to die for it.

6. Point one: Notice how he avoided mentioning Biden's name?
That means his polls show that people trust Biden.

Point two: The person who raises taxes is the person who spends the money, not the person who has to collect the money. BushCo, McCain, and the Republican spending machine raised the taxes. The person who has to collect the taxes isn't the culprit.

8. Yeah, taxes are totally unnecessary. That's why we owe trillions and China owns our asses.
Only a Republican would think we can run two wars forever and NEVER ask a dime more--in fact, we should CUT taxes for the wealthiest and for corporations--it'll all get paid for in GOP Fantasyland, somehow, by future generations.

9. I'm sure that this will end up in another one of their distortion ads.
Biden should reiterate what he has said before..."John McCain is patriotic, he really would give his life for the country....but he doesn't have the guts to stand up to rich people and ask them to pay more taxes? Instead, he lies about our tax policy. How are we supposed to expect him to stand up to Wall Street?"

11. LIAR! PAYING taxes is patriotic. Obama is going to cut taxes for the majority of Americans.
McCain is the one who wants to raise them in a sneaky chickenshit way by taxing health benefits. Now that's just plain dumb.

Passing bills to your children is not a family value

22. Yeah, I'm really blown away by how Wall St.'s been "spending wisely" these days.
The whole market is collapsing around you, and you still applaud it. Good grief.

P.S.: Medicare has substantially lower overhead costs than private industry.

21. Yeah, McLame has really put his country first by directly helping to deregulate tthe economy
Thanks, McLame for the suckiest economy since 1992. Actually, I think this one is worse than Reagans and Poppy Bush's. Also, speaking of patriotic, wasn't it Biden that helped get armor for the troops in Afganistan and Iraq? And wasn't it McLame who was against the G.I. bill but said no one can question him because he was, and repeat after me folks: "A POW". Not so patriotic to me.

23. Wearing a label pin is patriotic but paying taxes isn't?
It was a clever line by Biden. McCain's response is almost predictable and can be turned back against him. Country or self first?
