THE ACTUAL COMMANDER of the Alaska National Guard, Major General Craig Campbell stated this:

The entire National Guard operation is under federal control and Governor Palin is not briefed on situations
Governor Palin is not in the National Guard�s chain of command
Governor Palin has no authority over the National Guard's operations except for domestic missions � such as fighting wildfires and rescuing stranded residents, where she has a very limited role

A lot is said here and elsewhere about her supporters being "rednecks", but I seriously doubt there are any so limited and immature to boot, as to try to claim experience and expertise in foreign affairs on such an infantile basis.

Actually, when I first read it, I was baffled. I couldn't imagine what the significance of her geographical propinquity to Russia could be. It just didn't make any sense.
