If Obama can come across as having knowledge on "some of these issues" as McCain does, he can win the election.

WTF?

What ISSUES is McCain knowledgeable on? Spain? Germany? The economy?? Bottled hot water? Blackberries? What?!? I Can't think of ONE single thing Mccrap has been right about!!

He did very well in the senate race. He should have won that rather than Corker the criminal. Racism won the day. Ford should be campaigning...not be stupid on national TV.

would he really sincerely help Barack, or secretly stab him in the back by his lukewarm, right-leaning ways...?

36. I believe he would...
Ford is a conservative Dem. He has supported some of bush's policies and does support some Dem ones as well.

Thing is...TN is very tough for Dems. They have to be conservative in some ways or else they're without a job. That's just how it is here and there is no getting around it. We've got a Dem gov and even though he's a damn good one, he still has to walk a fine line between being a Dem and not totally pissing off the repukes since they've got so much power here.

Right-leaning ways is what helps TN Dems.

Oh, and Obama campaigned for Ford, too. That's why I want Ford to get home and do some work for Obama.

When's Bill Clinton going out - and where?
Is Bill Richardson working NM?
Seems like a lot of "names" should be out constantly. Joe, Barack & Michelle can only be in one place at one time.

12. in before the obligatory "then don't watch!" post, haha.
Yeah, I turned it on for a second, and Ford was going on and on about how Obama should just leave Palin alone, she is too much for him to handle, etc...perpetuating the myth that Obama has even been addressing Palin! And how come Palin and McCain never get "warned" to ignore Biden? Ford was one of the sole fans of the lime green monster speech, that just confirmed for me where he stands.

33. Harold Ford helped screw up Merrill Lynch. From wikipedia.
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 05:40 PM by SurferBoy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Ford,_Jr.

In early March 2007, Fox News Channel hired Ford as a "political contributor".<29>

In March 2008, he moved to MSNBC, the NBC cable news network as a news analyst, appearing as a panelist on David Gregory's Race for the White House. <30>

Ford has been appointed visiting professor of public policy at Vanderbilt University and teaches a class on American political leadership.<31> Also, Ford has joined the Merrill Lynch financial services firm as a vice chairman and senior policy advisor.

How's that vice chairmanship of Merrill Lynch working out for you, Mr. Harold Ford, Jr. ?

38. Look, I know everyone thinks he's a dino, but what I hear him saying
is the same phraseology Obama would use...and since I trust Obama, I think there is a reason they do this...like when Obama praises mccain before he lays in the punches...With that statement Harold gave about mccain, he's building up mccain past his competency, therefore when we see him at the debates and he turns out to know less than even we do, he'll look realllllly bad....They are good friends, so I really think there is a reason they use the wording they do...

41. Didn't hear his exact words, but it makes sense (yes, he's still an idiot)
This election is looking a lot like 1980. All of the fundamentals favored Reagan, but for some reason Carter was hanging on in the pre-election polling. Once people saw them together in the debates and it became clear that Reagan could handle himself even marginally on the key issues (in hindsight, that's probably debatable), people got over their initial skepticism and flocked to him.

Ford was likely making the same point. All Obama has to do is appear on the same stage as McCain, go toe-to-toe with him on the issues, and he wins.

And please, don't flame me for not pointing out that Obama is light years ahead on McCain on every single issues -- of course he is. Unfortunately, this is how the process just needs to play out.
