I have come to the unfortunate conclusion that I can no longer watch CNN
I watched like 5 minutes of 360 AC, and after watching the truth being reported on Countdown and Rachel Maddow, I felt like I was watching a slow moving joke. There was John King, Anderson Cooper and Candy Crowley discussing who the economic situation would favor. It was incredible, as they were talking as though the verdict was still out, although there was "some" indication that it might favor Obama "in a small way".

I felt like I was watching a discussion in the Twilight Zone. They were trying so very hard to make the McCain campaign seem like a viable consideration, when we all know that the McCain campaign doesn't just stink a little, but stinks a whole lot.

After today, I can no longer watch this channel. It is too creepy to witness the disconnect that CNN has versus the reality in our country. These kinds of people are actually dangerous to our democracy....and I will not sit back and watch traitors selling out this country and treating viewers like we are stupid. I can no longer do it anymore. I will no longer watch. They have been part of the problem, and supporting them by viewing their crazy asses will only do further damage to our country.

Goodbye CNN!

33. I always pop up with this..peeps must be getting tired
of it by now. I turned off cabal n00ze Nov 6, 2002 when I saw how they had a direct bearing on the Dems midterm elections.

I know we have to have recon but I'm sure there will always be plenty of those who watch so we don't have to.

They're sickening with their corporate masters' scripts in their hands like people don't know what they're trying to pull.

I'm calling bullshit on that. She reports angles of stories to purposely hamstring Obama. She ferrets out GOP snot-rockets and breathlessly reports them alongside her campaign reports. What a poser.

20. Candy Crowley was a Bushite in the 2000 elections
When the early exit polls said Gore won, she looked like she was going to cry. Then when the "results" were changed she was just about cheering when she got to say Bush won. I have detested here since that night. Usually if I see her face I change the channel as soon as possible.

70. I remember the look on her face
Oh man. She was so disappointed when the numbers showed Gore winning. Then her whole attitude changed and she perked up when it was announced they giving the election to Bush.

She wasn't the only reporter who revealed their preferences by how quickly they glommed on to the argument that Gore should concede and repeating Baker's line that the votes had already been counted.

14. I hope more and more people opt to watch real news.....
and stop watching all of the pretend stuff on those other channels.

I had to work outside of my office today, and when I came home, KO was coming on. So I caught up with my political news. Then I watch Rachel....and so after that, I knew what was going on exactly. That's why when I turned to 360 and heard the falsely constructed news there, something just clicked.

The disconnect with truth and those other programs (KO and Rachel) is truly breathtaking. The contrast is stunning!

I listen to progessive radio or put the Obama/Biden "live rallies" on line in the background while working (I do accounting).....or I'll watch television at times.

So it isn't that I don't work, it is that I have a job (self employed) that allows me to work and watch television at the same time.

22. They are forced to microanalyze the campaign on a nanotechnology scale
I was watching it probably when you were and it is just a joke how they try to make up something where there is nothing or that they don't bother to actually dig a little deeper into what is happening for fear that their bosses will tell them it's getting too close to the sponsor's interests.

Cooper wants to keep his gig, Crowley is barely camera-friendly and wants to pupport she knows more than others and John King is probably a Republican.

They want blood and guts, but they can't report on the war. No hurricane is shattering some towns. Playing the candidate's speeches more in full (like Lehrer does) would appear less infotainment-like and it's a "slow news night", even though Wall Street is shattered and McCain/Palin are fading...

At least Jon Stewart is on...

...if I watch CNN, I end up shouting factual refutations at the TV, to the distraction of my neighbors.

...if I watch Fox News, I have to clean up the broken glass, buy a new TV, and explain the situation to the police.

I can't stand the way the news media presents false dichotomies.

If the Democrats want to shake your hand, and the republicans want to cut it off at the elbow, the media tries to convince you to cut it off at the wrist.

THIS IS NOT COMPROMISE!

Sometimes, one party is wrong, and usually, it's the republicans!

39. Watching what many people in the US are watching
gives us an idea of what much of the country's electorate is hearing and seeing. It's good practice to at least dip one's toe in the water once in a while.

CNN isn't always awful. They will have nights when they're scrutinizing McCain more than usual. I was dissappointed tonight that they were showing a bias in favor of McCAin again.

Maddow and Olbermann are good as an antidote to CNN, but they aren't exactly objective or even trying to be. That's not what they are about. There's a lot of opinion in their shows. But with the kid gloves that McCAin is treated with by the majority of the MSM, Maddow and Olberman provide an important balancing of view.

40. See, I don't buy this "balance" thing.
It's kind of like the lies were told that got us into Iraq. At that time, they also attempted to build an alternative reality.....and certainly most TV folks were on one side, while a few were on the other. Those were lies that we were told......but some would have said that DU was extreme and imbalanced at the time, as we stood against going into Iraq. But in reality, we were right. SO this Balance has nothing to do with anything. Many times it is right versus wrong, and there is no real middle.

I think that KO and Maddow are reporting the truth. McCain is the worst candidate seen since Dole. He is awful! He is old, out of touch, stands for everything that is wrong with America, and yet he isn't being portrayed that way. He is held up as a plausible candidate against Barack Obama. His political pick of Palin makes his whole "Country First" argument a cynical slogan and nothing more! Meanwhile, Obama is one of the best candidates we've ever had (and his skin color is really the only thing holding him back, to be honest), and a perfect andedote after 8 years of Bush. And that is what "balanced" reporters would convey to viewers at the end of the day. But that is not the case.

So what you are saying is exactly what the Corporate media wants it to be said; that CNN is the "balanced" one, and that Fox is extreme right, while MSNBC is extreme left. That's just not true. Sometimes the truth is the truth, period. In this case, Maddow and KO tell the truth, and balance has nothing to do with it.

72. Balance
Edited on Fri Sep-19-08 12:16 PM by goodgd_yall
First, I never said CNN is balanced. And I wouldn't characterize MSNBC as extreme left. MSNBC has plenty of corporate-favoring people reporting. Only Maddow and Olberman can be relied upon to be consistently hip to what's really going on. But their shows still are loaded with lots of editorializing. I can plainly see a news broadcast that would be truthful without using Olberman's and Maddow's style. Every time I watch CNN, I see ways they COULD HAVE reported a particular story. Of course, news is so messed up nowadays where you have straight reporting mixed up with analysis and commentary, the lines between objective reporting and spin are smudged. I don't see any news show as objective reporting. The closest I've ever seen to objective was Pacifica radio and Amy Goodman's show.

The "headline news", the Domestic CNN and CNN International.

I must admit, I'm getting politicked out... (if politicked is such a word and yes I probably spelt it wrong)

So lately I've been leaving the TV on CNN International. At least they limit you to 1 hour of Situation Room, 1 hour of Larry King and 1 hour of Anderson Cooper. Rest is other stuff. And the "Revealed" series has people I really want to watch on there, not Ms Failin' (their profiles get aired this weekend on CNNI). I DVR'd the one on Billy Connelly - shame it was only 1/2 hour :(

45. The Conspiracy News Network...
is something I've not watched since 2004. I couldn't stand the election coverage.

The main networks have to keep covering the campaign till the very last -- so they want to keep the suspense going, even if there isn't any. It's more fun for their ratings if they can compete with other networks, so they appear to get the scoop.

My news comes from various internet sources and liberal media, which I can stand. It tends to have more than a grain of truth to it.

and it's clear that they are willing to jump through hoops to defend McCain or at least muddy the waters by saying, like last night, "Oh well, Neither candidate has seized on the economy...and neither has a plan." I turned it on for a second tonight and saw John King trying SO hard "McCain said he wanted to fire this guy...that proves that he has ideas about REFORM and that he isn't like BUSH!" Pathetic. And I wish that David Gregory would just move to CNN, he fits it great there.

It's just not possible to hear her bullshit, it sounds like the past 8 years but amp'ed, and equate it to some change maverick fictional meaning. It's just so stale.

59. I haven't watched T.V. regularly in years
I prefer to use the web where I can locate any point of view or analysis that I want WHEN I want, and unfilitered/controlled by the corporate powers that be. Honestly with that type of power at our disposal I really don't see a need to watch the MSM at all, I mean unless it spurs you to either donate more, volunteer more, or make the case for obama more among your friends and associates that is. (which may very well be the case for many)

Just wanted to check what the .com's headlines were saying:

I feel so warm and fuzzy knowing Senator Mccain's "got this".

NOT. :eyes: :scared:

64. I stopped watching the "news" right after the GOP convention...made my head explode to keep hearing
the MSM saying how great Palin was. Now, I visit DU, Huffington Post, watch The Daily Show. That's it. I can't say I will never watch MSM news, but I will definitely stay away until after the election. Helps my state of mind too.

I can tell by the look in his eye. He should debate Lou Racist Dobbs some time, that would be interesting.

or any tv news source. They are all crap and have been for a loooong time. Welcome to the club.

And the sad thing is, I LOVED CNN back in the days when Bernie Shaw was the main anchor.

Tried watching them again during the primaries, but they have gotten worse since 2004. DD (Dear Dad) watches Faux news :puke: for entertainment.

MSNBC looks like the lesser of two evils right now.

78. Glenn Beck
has made me decide never to turn on that channel, and drop cable all together. He is a total right wing shill as bad or worse than Limbaugh, O'Liely, Hannidy, Savage, Miller or Coulter. How can they justify having an evil, demonic, talking head, 'entertainer' with a cherubic face betray us with candy coated shit. He's a joke a minute putting down the democratic party, promoting the destruction of the Constitution, the rise of a police state, and scapegoating Muslims and Mexicans with his racist bigotry. He's a lumpy white, bloated chunk of pork, hiding behind the book of Mormon. We need a return to the Fairness Doctrine, when we have a chance to return to some regulation in this country.

84. On Morning Joe McCain is showing "leadership" Obama
doing nothing regarding economy, didn't produce a plan. People want leadership they say.
Obama taking money from wall street, won't fight them. McCain warned about fannie mae, no one listened and Obama took their advice. McCain is specific, Obama vague. Oh really?
Do they have McCain campaign write their script?

Oh brother. I haven't heard anyone mention Obama's speech on Wall Street regarding need for regulation, his long stand on it, his warning about sub-prime crisis, actions he tried to take on it. His specific response to bail-out plan.

One mustn't say nice things about Obama, if the other is doing so. Didn't you read the calendar, this week was MSNBC's turn to be play nice. Next week they switch.

86. CNN International is usually a safer bet.
Anderson, Wolf and Larry are down to an hour a day on CNNI but not eliminated, and Larry is Memorex, not live.

You also get to hear real news too.

It's ran out of London and Hong Kong, though some stuff does come from Atlanta and NY. They view their competition as BBC World, not Fox or MSNBC... you can tell by the style of their presentation, and their lack of adverts. (yes they have them but the ad breaks are an awful lot shorter and plug future programming). It's actually a shame that they are made to carry AC360, Sit Room & LKL.

Mark.

83. News should be considered as foreplay
The typical news format is as follows:

25 % of the news cycle is set aside to describe the orgasm that is to follow.
5 % of the news cycle is set aside for the actual news.
The balance ( 70% ) is set aside for the talking heads ( one from each camp ) to
convince me that I didn't hear what I thought I heard.

I turn to Rachel for my multiple news-asms.
